THIS IS NOT A NEW CHAPTER OF SURPRISE! Just a one shot spin off... sorry for causing confusion :)
The past always catches up in the end…
“That’s impossible!”, Owen said, staring at the scanner.
“What?”, Jack craned his neck.
Ianto sighed, “I’m already pregnant. What else do you want to try under the category of ‘impossible’?”.
Owen bit his lip, “Hold on. Just let me check something”.
Ianto looked up worriedly at Jack, who reached out and took his hand, giving him a comforting smile.
“Owen”, Ianto began nervously, “You’re scaring me”.
“Well , you’re scaring me so we’re even”.
“Owen!”.
“It’s…”, Owen was lost for words, “the baby…”.
“What?”, Jack snapped impatiently.
“Well, the baby has two hearts”.
Ianto felt Jack’s hand begin to squeeze his tighter.
“What?”, Jack breathed.
“Two hearts”, Owen confirmed, “Here”.
He handed the scanner picture over. Jack ignore him and turned to look at Ianto. Ianto’s eyes were wide and he felt nervous under Jack’s intense gaze.
Ianto took a shaky breath, “Jack-”.
Jack let go of his hand and stepped away.
“Please”, Ianto tried, “Jack”.
“No”, Jack said stoutly, turning and stomping up the stairs.
Ianto jumped down from the table and ran after him.
“Jack! Wait!”.
“No”, Jack yelled over his shoulder.
“Look”, Ianto reached out for him but Jack shook him off violently.
“Stop being such a bastard and listen to me!”, Ianto yelled.
Jack turned on him menacingly, “Why? Why should I, huh? You obviously never listened to me!”.
“Jack”, Ianto sighed, “He… was here… and you weren’t”.
‘So this is my fault?”.
“I’m not blaming you”, Ianto shook his head tiredly.
“Sounds like you are”.
“I’m not!”.
“I need to go”.
“No”, Ianto said, stepping in his path, “You’re not just walking away from this”.
Jack glared at him, “Not my kid, not my problem”.
Ianto was shocked at the hate in Jack’s eyes. He stepped back from him, overwhelmed. Jack walked around him but turned back.
“You knew I loved him”, he hissed, “But I guess you knew him better than I did”.
Ianto closed his eyes and listened to the sound of Jack walking away, his footsteps heavy. He heard the roll-away door close and he opened his eyes slowly.
He looked around and saw Owen, Tosh and Gwen watching him.
“What was that?” ,Tosh asked with raised eyebrows.
“That”, Ianto blinked back tears “That was the sound of the past catching up with the future”.
