I have been practicing each instrument, every day. That means each day I'm getting in piano, violin and guitar. I've been feeling rather inspired lately, and the sun has decided to grace us with its presence once again, so my park trips are becoming much more frequent.
Andrew took me to see George Winston on the 6th for my Christmas Present. We drove to Baton Rouge where we had real Mexican food (like back in Texas Mmm) and got lost downtown. It was also very difficult to get in, because at first the lady said we had bought the wrong day because our tickets were for the day before. Then they gave us Membership pass tickets when 3 different people had the same seats! So we had to go back and they gave us different seats and apparently the guy had simply written the seats down wrong. I don't know. Anyway, we got in and were able to see the beauty that is Mister George Winston. He played songs from his December album as well as other incredible songs. He would play these songs of perfect progression inspired by the seasons of nature... but then he would play a song about a dancing snowman or something inspired by the peanuts. Heh. He also played two songs on the guitar and a harmonica song that was perhaps one of the most incredible things I have seen in my entire life. I had no idea someone could play a harmonica like he did.
Secondly, George Winston brought an artist ,Harriet Blum, to show her work in an exhibit outside the concert hall. you can see her work at
www.harrietblum.com what she does is takes black and white photos of beautiful scenes, then uses cotton balls or Q-tips to color in with oil paints. Jennifer, some of her art was the most amazing I had EVER seen. She happenned to be standing at the table so Andrew and I nervously approached her in approval.
New Orleans is in Carnival Season as some of you may now, so it's rather insane lately. I went to two parades this weekend and got myself lots of beads. I also had myself some good laughter at the ridiculousness of New Orleans but am a bit annoyed by the disgusting scent of drunken college students. Slowly I'm feeling better about my disposition here and in time I'll be a stronger person. I look forward to many a concerts, strolls through the park, epiphanies on instruments and perhaps some cranky conversations over coffee/tea.
Nonetheless, my laundry should be done and I'm waiting for Mister Jonathan to get out of the play.
