I've had a lot of emails recently asking if I've left LJ...it seems so, looking back. I haven't. I'm just lazy/busy/forgetful...something.
Fb is so much quicker...which is exactly what I didn't like about it.
Anyway, I'm going to make a real effort to update here more frequently...
Good news? Two kitties adopted this week...one being a complete surprise. I replied to a query about our cats to someone whose friend wanted to surprise her daughter with a much-requested kitty. After selecting Cheddar, the perfect choice in opinion, she kept looking back at Kai...a gorgeous long-haired B&W girl of 2 years. Upon reaching their car, she asked if *she* could adopt Kai... I wasn't there, and my partner allowed this. NOT a good idea, and Kai and Jellow are *very* bonded littermates, and I don't think splitting them will work. I was right. The following day, she calls to say the cay cried all night and wouldn't let anyone approach her. Jellow, meantime, did the same. As is our policy, we told her we'd take Kai back...no problem. Which we did. Rather than leave empty handed, she them took Marco ( a sweet little black-on-black tabby)home, and things are going swimmingly with him. So YAY!!! TWO adoptions!
Looks like another adoption on the boards for the upcoming weekend...and possibly two. That would be wonderful! We'd be down to a mere two dozen furry little felines. That's if you don't count the seventeen barn cats waiting for a place to go... *sigh* Anyone have a farm that needs a couple of vaccinated and spayed/neutered kitties to keep the mousies away?
As to that, we were in a bit of a money crunch, but managed to get through it. Having a large number of kitties to "fix" and vaccinate is *not* an inexpensive undertaking, but desperately needed doing.
BTW, Illinois people...are you aware of Anna's Law? It allows people on either food stamps or Social Security Disability OR managers of feral cat colonies to get animals spayed/neutered and vaccinated for a $15 co-pay. Managers can get five vouchers per year, and the other folks can have two pets, dogs OR cats, done each year. Nice some consideration is being given. It certainly helps us out! If you want more info, just ask me...
Not much more news...headed out to the ever-wonderful and entertaining Kane County Flea Market the first weekend of May. LOVE that place.
Also getting geared up for our spring tag sale on May 22nd/23rd to support the rescue/shelter. Cross your fingers for a rain-free weekend for us!
Taxes done and sent in on April 14th...the latest EVER! That's thanks to one employer's accountant being a dick and not getting my 1099 to me, despite both me and the employer asking since February 3rd! I *still* don't have it, so had to get employer to write up a letter for me. Hopefully, that will suffice... I don't have much of a refund coming...I try to get as much as possible each week in my check (why give the gov't. an interest-free loan?) but I do want the bit I have coming to me.
Really wanting to get Dexter on DVD, but haven't quite convinced myself to spend the $$$. No chance of finding it "pre-viewed" at Blockbuster, either. Damn. Did get two seasons of The Tudors, thanks to the wonderful
anmorata. So very grateful to her!
