Two weeks ago he was shooting with us at the club. Now he's gone.

I'm talking about Henry, who in the mind of many, has become the icon for our archery club. I heard a lot of people comment over the years how he looks like Colonel Sanders. He does! Henry is still alive, mind. It is just none of us will see him again. He took ill sometime after shooting that Tuesday night. He was rushed off to the hospital where it was determined he was no longer able to take care of himself and should not live alone. His son has taken him to Cleveland to live with him. There were no goodbyes; he is just gone.

Henry has been treasurer of the club for 41 years. Tom, the guy nominated to take over for Henry, has his work cut out for him in sorting out the records, figuring out where everything was kept, and not least of all, discovering where all the club's money is located. See, Henry is 84 years old. He did things old school. No computers. Money stuffed in old coffee cans. Four desks full of club records in his home. Yes, four!

I have always been amazed that Henry could shoot at his age, and I often commented that the club had become his purpose in life. I don't think he really did much else. Now that it will no longer be part of his life, I can only imagine how he must feel. And, I am astonished at how quickly a person's health can decline. How can someone be well enough to draw a high-powered bow 60 times in a couple of hours one day and unable to take care of himself the next?
