My Philosophical Rambling

Going the Bodies Exhibit at The Detroit Science Center made me think about my life in a new way, which is always good, because I feel we are here to expand our experience and learn new things. The more I learn, the more I think that our purpose in life is to better ourselves, to move closer to evolving as a species, always striving for more knowledge and new perspective. The exhibit Sunday made me feel very fragile, seeing that in the end we are all just flesh and bones, even the self conscious part of us ("the observer"/ or the soul as some call it) that we most identify with who we are as a person is useless without the physical self.

Self love involves accepting and caring for all parts of who we are, body, mind and spirit. All three must be in balance to reach our potential, if one is neglected, all aspects of life can feel incomplete. Learning is life long, experience is life long, and we should always be working to better ourselves as people. I think if more people lived their lives not for the mundane routine, but for personal betterment, we would not see the destruction and chaos we are surrounded in. I think too often we get caught up in the existential life, comparing religion and politics, or looking for the big answers that we overlook our individual needs. How can we possibly interact with others, expect to have quality relationships or find love if we do not first find balance within and love ourselves?
