Today my mom and I went to see the Dead Sea Scrolls exhibit at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences here in downtown Raleigh. It was really interesting -- besides just the fragments of the scrolls, they also had on display coins, pottery, ossuraries, and other artifacts from the same area of ancient Jerusalem where the scrolls were produced. Seeing all that stuff definitely got me pumped for my archaeology class, which starts in just three days (!!).

We also went to Barnes & Noble beforehand, and I used my Christmas gift cards to finally get that boxset of Peter Gabriel era Genesis albums! The gift cards only covered about half of it -- I ended up having to pay about $70 of my own money -- but God, it was sooo worth it. This boxset is amazing. It contains all five of the albums that the band recorded with Peter as the main vocalist/lyricist, which you really can't find individually in record stores anymore. The tracks are remastered, and all of the discs contain lyrics, album artwork, and an extra DVD with live performances and/or interviews and such. I can't wait to listen to and watch it all. I'm sure it will provide excellent writing inspiration for me, because the musician character who appears in the second part of my novel is heavily based on Peter Gabriel when he was with Genesis. (Of course, the character also has his own attributes/personality traits which I made up. It would be boring if he were based entirely on just one person and there was no creativity to his characterization at all. Still, there's no doubt that Peter is a huge influence.)
