Been trying to study Russian all weekend. /=
Today (Sunday), Kristy and I felt the need for eggs and bacon (and pancakes), but didn't feel like putting that much effort into breakfast.. to make the problem worse it was 2pm and most restaurants didn't think it was breakfast time anymore.
In fact the only remaining breakfast location was IHOP. At first I was opposed to ever returning there, but later curiosity and nostalgia got the better of me so IHOP it was.
What hit me as most familiar was the smell of the place. It definitely had a distinct IHOP smell. I recognized one of the cooks, as well as our server (Heather). It made me rather nostalgic altogether.. it hadn't that bad working there except that they insisted on giving me too many hours )=
It wasn't an entire loss in terms of studying russian though because conversation at the table next to us was entirely conducted in Russian.

Addendum - IHOP Revisited, LJ style
Let us review some of our favorite IHOP memories:
Razor-Blades in IHOP Restrooms - Getting Hired
Saturday, February 22th
...pulled myself out of bed after my two hours of sleep (and still feeling tipsy) and walked across town to IHOP. At this point I've walked at least nine miles in the last 12 hours (IHOP to Keebler, Party to home, and home to IHOP).
It was definitively the most awesome day of work in my life however. The morning shifts all did their thing while the evening shifts pretended to be customers. So from 9:00 to 14:00 I was getting paid $7.50 an hour to be seated by the servers and have hella food brought out in front of me. It was unreal just like plate after plate getting set in front of me.. because the cooks obviously needed to practice really making the food.... and then I pretended to pay my bill.. which was like $30 each time. sheit. It was good times. Met a bunch of servers and stuff. Many of whom are very bogus and annoying. Jennifer the cool server has her first day's tips on a bet on who is going to be the first two be fired... and I agree with her the server in question is a freakin bitch. Speaking of servers, Claire still either hasn't recognized me, or more likely, is pretending not to recognize me. Silly Claire.
Everything I've heard about the morning shift cooks is pretty negative... they apparently all have little ego problems and don't work well with eachother and stuff like that. I really like the whole evening cook shift even if I can't communicate with half of them. But yea the galley broke down today.. the morning shifts lost control of everything and had to completely stop, take a half hour break and start over.
Got a ride home from Don and went promptly to sleep.
Sunday, February 23rd
The training at work was the same thing as it had been yesterday, however this time the pm shifts were doing their thing and the am shifts were pretending to be customers. We managed not to break down like the morning cooks had. I am going to do mad studying before my first real day of work on Wednesday.
One of the morning cooks was in for a bit this morning for some time. I'm not sure why.. maybe he mistakenly thought he was supposed to be working today rather than being a simulated customer. I don't know but he gave us a nice taste of the morning shift spirit: if anyone came within two feet of him he was like "hey I need space!" even though he was just making freakin bacon. Otherwise he was generally an ass.
We got issued uniform shirts today. yay. Anyway, after hella cleaning (the kitchen got sooo dirty) we were finally released and I proceeded to sleep till 23:00.

By far the biggest news of today however is that upon coming home from a two hour expedition to Krispy Kremes with Lisa, I found this messege from Vanessa: "[01:43] vannybodanny: I quit today...so No" (as regards my query as to whether she could possibly take my thursday shift, as it came to my attention today that this upcoming weekend's Model UN conference actually starts on Thursday). Today was the first day IHOP here in Davis was open, and consequently of course the first day of work for Vanessa and/or anyone else that worked today. And she's HELLA better than I. So I'm a bit panicked to find out why she quit... she seemed to be doing fine up till now. I have my own first day tomarrow and am planning on spending most of tonight studying how to make everything. (And just when I thought Vanessa was about to break her streak of livejournal appearances she comes and grabs the headline. What a ham).
Wednesday, February 26th
School, work 5pm to like 2am. Good times. Got a ride home with Jennifer the Server.

School, work 5pm to like 2am. Good times. Don and Jennifer the Server and I got our drink on at Don's after work...
Friday, February 28th
...woke up at 10am on my livingroom floor. I was supposed to catch a 7am bus into San Fransisco for the UC Berkeley Model United Nations (MUN) Conference (UCBMUNC). Presumably I was trying to get to my room when I passed out five feet from my door the night before. Reflecting on these things I declared myself straight edge (sXe) and drew Xs on my hands with sharpie...
Sunday, February 30th
So after an hour walk arrived at work. Rather than the usual tremendous understaffedness, we were somewhat OVERstaffed, on account of a large number of personnel having been transferred from the Vacaville IHOP. I made sandwiches, it was good times.
Though I had been quite clear in both talking to the manager Paul, and in what I wrote on my availablity sheet -that I could only work two days a week and not before 5pm- Paul scheduled me five days the upcoming week, all 3-11. I therefore quit at 11pm. He never ever gave us breaks either.. I didn really care cause I'd eat enough while working to remain content, but its all part of a larger pattern of a you-can-go-screw-yourself attitude toward employees on the part of management.
