Really Truly Retired
School starts today without me. This is only the second time since 1957 that I haven't been in a classroom full-time in September. The other time was in 1974, right after I graduated college and did not yet have a full-time teaching job. Can you spell
W-E-I-R-D??? There's no getting away from it now. I am truly retired.
Last night I called Kristine, who will be replacing me today in the Theatre Arts classroom. She answered the phone with an agonized scream and promised to call me this afternoon to tell me how it went. She'll be amazing!
This morning, I am heading for the gym, then going out to have breakfast and hit the beach with another retired teacher. It will be 95 degrees here at the Jersey Shore today. The beach will be a much better place to be than the classroom. A little nostalgia, but no regrets.
