Pirates in 3d

So, the other day I took the Tigger to see Pirates of the Caribbean 3D. This was my first time to see a picture in 3D since my early childhood when you would have those glasses with one red and one blue glass (well I suppose I should say bit of plastic, they were never very stylish nor made with much quality).
The cinema felt nice though a bit empty, I suppose Monday at twenty to six isn't when most people chose to go to the cinema. The seats, witch we chose on a screen at the till, were large and comfy and even reclined a tiny bit. The aisles in front of us were wide enough to stretch your legs and to let anyone past, should there have been anyone but us and two guys a few rows back. The screen was of a good size, could have been a bit larger for my liking, but not that small that you felt cheated which I sometimes do. The sound was a little bit too loud before the film started but adjusted itself nicely once the film began. The film was good. I'm very fond of the characters in the Pirates movies, but I preferred the first one when they didn't stray too much from reality. This time we've said good bye to Kiera Knightly and Orlando Bloom, which I felt was good. The time had come for them to leave the story, instead we got more of Geoffrey Rush who I think is my favourite actor in these films, even though Johnny Depp's character remains my favourite character.
The story was a little too magical for me to be a new favourite but it was still good.
What wasn't good was 3D.
This film is filmed as 2D and then in post productions made into 3D, and you could clearly tell this. Hardly ever had they made any good use of the 3D feeling, but I think I could have survived this hadn't it been for the fact that anything that wasn't on the "standard layer", if you get what I mean, anything that was suppose to be closer or further away was all out of focus. Sometimes it was just the background or some extras in the foreground, but sometimes it was the characters who were speaking that was out of focus and that made it really hard to watch. I even took my glasses of for some parts, and it was mostly better than to keep them on. Surely it shouldn't be like that?
