001. Freefall, Eeteuk/ Kangin

The excitement and the thrill of falling. The rush of adrenaline that coursed through your system in that life-blinding moment. The feeling of harsh wind against your skin as you made the drop.

Leeteuk felt like he was going to die.

He doesn’t know what possessed him to follow the rest of the members when he is totally aware of his fear of heights. So here he was, watching the rest of them bungee-jumping while he clung to a supporting pillar in fear.

Leeteuk almost about makes a run for it when he feels a pair of arms around his waist and that familiar voice that gives him tingles down his spine.

“You weren’t planning on leaving, were you?” Kangin says, breath hot against his ear. “I promise you’ll enjoy it.”

Leeteuk quickly thinks of an excuse. “I got a call from, uh, manager-hyung asking me to go back to help him with… stuff?” Leeteuk says, mentally hitting himself for the obvious lie.

He can almost feel Kangin smirking behind him as the arms around him tighten as he tries to test for a weakness in his hold, and hopefully, his survival. No such luck.

And that’s how they stay for the next few minutes, with Kangin’s arms around Leeteuk and Leeteuk’s increasing fear. Maybe it’s the replay of all those nightmares, of the dreams of falling and falling forever, the reason for his fear. Or maybe it’s just simple skin-on-skin contact with someone that means much more than he himself knows that makes him break.

“I’m afraid, alright?” Leeteuk says shakily. I’m afraid that if I fall, I won’t have any way of getting back up. But he never says it, allows Kangin to believe that it’s just a simple fear of heights that chokes him in so much fear it’s almost as if he can’t breathe.

Kangin turns him around, eyes warm with a bright smile on his face that only makes Leeteuk want to say it all, to tell him everything and leave himself bare because there’s something in the way Kangin looks at him that seems to send the message that he knows just what Leeteuk’s not saying.

“There’s nothing to be afraid of, hyung,” Kangin says as he tugs Leeteuk towards the others who are smiling and waving at them. “I’ll always be there to catch you.”

Maybe it’s ok to fall, Leeteuk things, staring at their intertwined hands. As long as you’ll be waiting at the bottom.
