Kendall was there the very first time it happened. Alongside the pretty boy, he was just as confused and hurt. Confused because he didn’t know why anyone would do that to James and hurt because he never wanted to see the other boy so upset, ever. This being the first time, he couldn’t figure out why anyone would give up something as perfect as James. That was just a sin, a stupid move on that douchebag’s part. Kendall witnessed as James bounced back, deeming his ex-boyfriend unworthy of him. The blond couldn’t have agreed any more.

Kendall was there the second time it happened. He was just as flabbergasted as the first time. He just couldn’t comprehend why some would give James up. The pretty boy was perfect, absolutely flawless. He was sweet, kind, unique, beautiful. Why would anyone let that go?

James didn’t recover so easily this time. Kendall had been there shortly after it’d happened, wanting to be there for his friend, headstrong that it had nothing to do with the slightly more than platonic feelings he held for James. The pretty boy had been in tears, wondering if there was something wrong with him. Kendall wiped his tears away and assured him there was absolutely nothing wrong with him, that he was perfect just the way he was. He then silently vowed to always be there whenever James got his heart broken.

Kendall was there the third and last time it happened. At this point, his confusion was outweighed by blatant anger. His protective side was coming out and that made him want to hurt anyone that hurt James. When he got the tell-tale text from the other boy, he swung by the store, picking up James favorite movies and junk food before immediately heading over to his house. When James answered the door, there were tears streaming down his cheeks and Kendall’s heart broke right there. No, it shattered.

He was so sick of watching James get his heart broken.

They were on their second movie and third bowl of ice cream when James asked it. The pretty boy had been cuddling against his side, seeking out physical comfort that Kendall was more than happy to provide. He looked up with wide, innocent eyes, shining with tears still.

“How did you know it happened again?” his voice was soft and meek, referring to Kendall’s quick arrival with all his favorite things. The things that slowly made him forget all about his recently declared ex.

“Because no one is good enough for you James,” Kendall answered honestly, without a second’s hesitation. Because James was far too good for the usual scum he dated.

“You are,” James whispered, tilting his head up to press their lips together. Kendall couldn’t help but think that this was probably wrong because James had just been dumped and there was a huge chance this was just a rebound. But he went along with it because he would never have to watch another guy break James’ heart ever again.
