Thoughts on SPN 7.10

What a crappy week. Crap-PY. Blech, blech, and blech.

Oh, hello, Show.

SPOILERS under the cut.

In which I am disjointedly delighted. )

season 7, episode reaction, supernatural

I'm mostly with you here. I love Bobby, and his loss makes me pretty sad, not to mention the worry what will happen to his boys now (because I don't think this will magically make Dean realize he'll have to get a hold on himself and his alcoholism and his issues, and heal Sam from all the shit he's dealing with), but at the same time the episode was basically s perfect send-off. If a beloved character has to go, you want it to be good, and it doesn't get much better than this. Anything more would ruin it.

I have seen people complain that "Idjits" would be a too stupid final word for him, but in all honesty, I can't imagine a better one for Bobby. That was a declaration of love right there.

It WAS a wonderful send-off, wasn't it?

The moment he said "idjits" was the moment I legit had tears in my eyes. Perfect, simple, so true to him and utterly beautiful.

It's been thirty minutes since I saw the episode now. The more it's sinking in, the more emotional I'm getting.

I rarely cry while watching TV shows or movies but I will admit, this episode was one of the few that made me tear up.

"They're MY boys." DAMN RIGHT THEY ARE! The minute Bobby said that I swear I had tears in my eyes. I hated the scene where John tells him that they're not his boys. Bobby's been more of a father to Sam and Dean than John ever was.

Bloody brilliant, yaar.

I couldn't agree more. It was just perfect.

If Bobby is dead...I dunno what the boys will do. This is worse than Ellen, Jo, Cas or even John's death. Bobby's been their support system for 7 freaking years. I love Bobby so yeah I do want to see him alive.

Fantastic episode. Definitely my favorite after Hello, Cruel World.

I teared up when he went "idjits". And right at the end, in the last memory. GAH. :(

What will they do, indeed! I hesitate to compare this to Hello, Cruel World because that episode had some pretty major things that never got adequate follow-up, and although I cannot imagine Show NOT giving this one a good follow-up, I don't really want to get my hopes up. I'm just happy we're not getting a uber-long hiatus this time.

I think I'm now resigning myself to Bobby actually being gone. I was in such massive denial last night, I spent most of my reaction post trying to find loopholes in the ending.

Part of my reason for not being able to believe it is how dramatically/irrevocably this changes everything.

You have to say one thing for Show, and I'm sure Bobby would agree - this show has balls.

It IS a very ballsy decision. Bobby has become such an integral part of this show that I cannot even imagine what it's going to be like from here on in. (and I'm kinda excited about that)

Coma!Bobby does sound like a plausible theory. The cliffhanger was cruel because of the sliver of hope it gave right at the end, I think.

I actually love a show that has the balls to kill off some of its most beloved characters. A season that kills both Castiel AND Bobby, at least for an extended duration if not permanently (because that's the thing about SPN--if you die, you aren't guaranteed to stay dead, but they a) make every death count and b) make sure you still aren't guaranteed to make it to the finish line even if you DO come back)? It makes it clear that there is no magical shield on these people, and they can die. Not even The Boys have it--Sam was not supposed to live past season five, and the only reason he did was through the magic of We Bought A New Season So Make It Go Longer Now, and even then, they said, "Okay, he survives--a broken MESS, that's how he survives ( ... )

True. (well, apart from the time Sam was killed by a lightning strike in 4.08, if you're really counting everything)

The deaths never lose their impact. I still cry right at the end of 2.21: All Hell Breaks Loose part 1, and I can't even bring myself to watch 5.10 again. But THIS--somehow, to have Bobby die slowly in a hospital bed with a bullet in his brain while the Boys stand around helpless--it's gutting in a whole new way.

Sam ploughs on because he has to. That quality of his has given us both his best and worst moments, and I love him for it. ♥

I read somewhere else that maybe Sam pressed the scar in the waiting room because he was hoping the whole thing was a hallucination. Which, hey, interesting theory. I like. :D
