well since my birthday was almost two weeks ago, i would say an update is in order. a few new things in life to report on...
i quit my catering job and took a part-time babysitting gig for a family in squirrel hill. they have two sons, ari age 4 and nadav age 2. ari is best friends with eitan, the boy i've been babysitting since his birth, so that's how i got the job. ari also goes to camp during the day, so much of my time is devoted to nadav. today was day 1 and it was interesting. the first 30 minutes were the toddler cry fest as to be expected with a new babysitter and the parents leaving. i finally calmed him down and no sooner had he stopped crying than he was asleep in my arms. this is a kid who will not let go of you for dear life and loves to be held, all of which i love about him. he slept for 2.5 hours while i read another chunk of one hundred years of solitude and then awoke. i had lunch while he slept but he had not eaten and after he regained consciousness and we played a little, the two cutest things being him insisting that we kiss the torah (he has two stuffed torah dolls) and that we play more guitar (me playing the plastic guitar toy that plays a song all by itself and nadav playing with a violin whose bridge he kept removing saying "it broke again" and having me fix) and then brought the "guitars" into the kitchen for a snack of grapes. we continued to play and then his mother came home. it's adorable because he can't pronounce my name correctly (the combination of his fluency in primarily hebrew and the fact that he turns 2 in two months) so he calls me "enemy". as i left he waved goodbye with a big grin saying "goodbye enemy." i just love that kid. so effin cute!
also, i went to the tdot for some R and R. i didn't really see all that many people, but i did see some of the people that i missed the most, those being sol and kelly. i also ran into maggie coincidentally downtown as neither of us are from toronto, and i had a lovely lunch with taylor and well i saw ariel too... he and his brother are just the same. it wasn't the most high profile of my toronto adventures... no raging parties of 30 plus wasted folk (tho 3 out of 6 of us on sol's birthday were nice and gone), no jam packed schedules to see everyone i possibly could. it was just, a relaxing week away.
other than that things are pretty much normal. i am not so much loving pittsburgh, but what else is new, and i am planning planning planning for costa rica while attempting to weasel another weekend in philly into the works. and well things are ok.
anyways, the little monster is barking so i must take him for a walk.
ps- i love having the ability to sit by the pool and read... the simple pleasures in life.
