Odd thoughts - What is an Olive?

Aug 09, 2010 09:36

A friend of mine and I came across this question a few days prior. There was some speculation that an olive was a vegetable, but also wondered that it might be a fruit (due to pits) and there was also the brief wonderment to if it was actually a bean, or something different entirely.

We were questioning the checker in our line (since she seemed knowledgeable and in a good mood) and she wasn't' sure either, nor where the patrons in the line behind us. There were arguments for both fruit and vegetable, and some evidence supporting it might be a member of the bean family.

It turns out that an olive is actually a fruit - making olive oil, a fruit juice.

Learn something new everyday ^-^

Next question: How do you pronounce Phosphatidylcholine? (No cheating; can you pronounce it without looking it up?) :P
