Today, the birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr, was a holiday for both Eli and me. We did not, I'm sorry to say, spend it reflecting profoundly on the nature of equality, justice, decency, or even stirring rhetoric. It's possible Eli read over a few speeches online, I suppose. We also did not go to any MLK Jr one-day sales at Macy's. No, we stayed home, puttering. I filled bird feeders and baths outside and I've tidied and filed some papers inside. We've worried about the spark-catcher thing on top of the chimney blowing off and doing property damage or injuring passersby. I talked to my father and I've written a check for the insulation. I can tie none of this to the man this day is supposed to honor but it's been a pleasant day nonetheless.

Book
Shades of Grey page 52. It's a re-read. One could stretch it a bit and note that it's a book about discrimination based on color, I suppose.
As promised yesterday, here I am hauling our purchases home from the shops yesterday. Sadly, the snow was a bit melty today so not so good for shifting of goods. Gradka even went out and walked in our footprints a few times. She still is not pleased with conditions.
