My gal pal from Sydney, Beverly sends me a message on Tuesday saying that she will be in Prague on Saturday for an Ebay summit. And there is a spare bed in her room at the Marriot Hotel. It was an opportunity not to be missed!
I booked flights and bravely persuaded my boss (with the Marriot Hotel part) to let me come in late on the following Monday so I could stay an extra night. Hurrah!
Got to the airport on Saturday morning and no Beverly. Waited for an hour at the airport, mildly panicking. Turns out her connecting flights got stuffed around and she was delayed for six hours in London.
So I started my adventure by getting ripped off getting pounds exchanged at the airport. Never again! Then I took a bus and a train into the center to explore the city.
I did alot of walking. Prague is a picturesque and historical city. Felt like I was walking in a typical Karaoke video.
The first thing I saw in the Prague centre.
It was almost impossible to weed out the tourists in most pics.
Stunning!
It was swelteringly hot. I was exhausted from having little sleep the night before, so I blindly followed the trail of tourists everywhere. (While acutely conscious of being pick-pocketed.)
Another popular thing to do in Prague is to see a classical concert. The motivating factor was to sit down and relax my tortured legs. Unfortunately I caught myself falling asleep throughout the performances. Hope they were'nt offended. The music was spectacular but I was knackered!
Finally got to see Bev at the Marriot hotel in the evening and call myself home. The room was a 5 star oasis! Let me officially say: Ebay, I love you!
Not sure if it was the heat exhaustion talking, but it felt like I'd died and gone to heaven. The beds were huge and comfy, equipped with luxe linen and cloud-like doonas.
We meet up with other Ebayers for dinner at an underground restaurant. Unfortunately the sleep deprivation caught up with me and because people were smoking inside, I endured an agonzing headache and felt queasy. I could'nt eat my roast pork knuckle with shaved horseradish. In fact, looking at it made it worse.
Thank goodness I got back to the hotel room, showered and slipped between the cotton sateen sheets for the best sleep of my life.
Goodnight!
