"They're not red."
Champ pulled his sweatshirt over his head and aimed himself in the direction of the coffee pot only to find Trevor had brought it over to where he was sitting at the counter examining a cereal box as he ate out of a bowl way overfilled with milk.
"What's not red?" Champ muttered, knowing better than to engage Trevor, but not being awake enough to stop himself.
"The hearts." Trevor turned the box of Lucky Charms cereal to face Champ, pointing to it. "The commercial said 'Red Hearts! Green Clover!' But look! The hearts aren't red! They're pink!"
"And as the God of Love this offends you?" Champ snarked.
"No, as a consumer I'm offended by the lack of truth in advertising," Trevor retorted. He paused long enough to pour more cereal into his bowl and shovel it into his mouth. "This stuff's addictive. I've been over the ingredient list trying to figure out what they put in it, but I can't figure out why I can't stop eating it."
"It's the marshmallows," Champ drawled. "Kids love 'em. But once you grow up..." He gave Trevor, who was currently drinking some extra milk from his bowl by holding it to his mouth, a glance. "Never mind."
"Dude, I've had ambrosia on Mount Olympus and this stuff? Comes awful close." Trevor turned the box upside down into his bowl, patting the bottom to make sure the last of it came out.
"Did you just eat that whole box?" Champ asked, aghast, stopping as his hand reached for the coffee pot.
"Nah." Trevor waved him off and Champ poured coffee into his mug. "I ate the first half of the box when I got home last night. And by the way we're out of..." His voice trailed off when Champ opened the refrigerator and pulled out the carton of milk. "Milk."
Champ opened the spout and poured the tiny dribble of what was left into his coffee mug as Trevor managed a sheepish grin and then held up his bowl as if to offer his leftover milk.
"Next time you get a hankering for hearts and clovers, Mr. Leprechaun?" Champ tossed off, taking his still mostly black coffee back to his bedroom. "Make sure you buy some milk with your cereal."
"Very funny!" Trevor called after him as he closed his door. "I'll have you know leprechauns don't exist!"
