busy day!

Jan 27, 2007 00:52

Got up this morning, kathrynt and the wee girlie came to fetch me and the little lad, and we headed off to shop at Madrona Fiber Arts Retreat. I'd have loved to take some of the classes, but it just wasn't going to happen this year what with the babies and all.

So! ( the haul )

cutepip, knitting, friends

*Cue "It's a Small World:" I had no idea you knew beki, who's an old friend of mine from Usenet days.

Sounds like a wonderful day. And I think I may have succumbed to some of the same slubby rayon at OFF last fall, though in a different color.

The rayon stuff's called Rio. It looks like the slubs help keep the fabric from being too unstable when the slippery yarn's knit up at a large gauge. And the Cat Bordhi poncho they had knit out of it, with beads on the edge... well, I'm not going to knit a *poncho*, but the drape of the fabric convinced me.

Beki and I started work in the same group at the phone company back in ... I think it was 94? We were in training groups a week or two apart. I left after about 3 years, right before getting married. I think it was as a result of comments in one of your posts that we had the "hey, you've got an LJ too?" moment. :-)

Yep, that's what I've got, in a brown-and-gold-and-salmon-pink mix. I want to do something lacy-but-not-too fussy with it for summer wear - I love the way it catches the light. I have the feeling it may be hell on my hands, but it's sooooo pretty.

Cool!

I wanted to go to Madrona, but I managed to schedule a trip to visit an old friend instead with non-movable plane tickets. Do you know if it's one of the yearly ones, or is it a one-off?

It's been going yearly for at least 5 years that *I* know of (possibly longer), and has just been getting bigger, so I think it will be around for a while. I suggest signing up for their e-mail list, they send out a message once they've started figuring out what classes to offer.

I kind of want to turn the teapot cozy into a long pointy hat.

Hee hee! That would be pretty simple, actually.

Oh. My. God. The. Cute. I've kind of avoided learning Fair Isle because I never really saw a project that tickled my fancy... and I don't typically learn new techniques for the sake of new techniques. But THAT is ADORABLE. *bookmarks link*

The cozy looks like a GREAT intro to Fair Isle knitting, because it's not very big, but it includes steeks and two-color ribbing, plus a bit of lace to finish it off.
