Huge thank yous to
lyricae and
tinlail for putting us up in their lovely toasty warm basement night before last. Thanks also to
solarbird for the loan of the heater, although as feared, kerosene is not to be had in the area right now. And thanks to everyone who sent along some good wishes.
Mom's power came back during the night last night and the MI schools are open again today. Our house is still without power, but we're going to stay here with mom until ours comes back. The good news for us is that power now reaches the point where the GINORMOUS tree took down some wires 2.5 blocks from our house; the bad news is that although said tree has been cut up and moved out of the road, the wires are still a mess.
We stopped by the house to pick up some things and drove past Pip's school as they were out for lunch recess and spotted him happily running around on the playground with the other kids. And he'll be happy staying at grandma's, too. The disruption of routine has been really hard on him, which made things a lot harder on me than the otherwise would have been.
