I had this goal of finishing my handspun ganseyish cardigan by the Shepherd's Extravaganza. Which is, of course, this weekend. I've got the first sleeve finished except for the last inch of the cuff, and the scond sleeve not even started. Pretty unlikely I'll be done by Sunday.
And why did I set it aside? First was to put together a submission for BGK2. Then I realized my swatch for that would make a really nice shaped cuff for a mitten. So I started making a mitten, and have reached the divide-for-the-thumb point. And then on Monday,
this kit arrived. So now I have this:
Clearly my stranding is rather tighter than the non-stranded portions. I'm going to have to do differently for the mitts, but I'm going to do the second sock the same way so they have a chance of matching. I also plan to reverse the blue and white for the mitts. There may well be enough yarn to make two sets of mitts, we'll see.
I used 2.5 mm needles from
here, and while I like these needles OK in the bigger sizes, for whatever reason I was just not happy using them on this particular project. When I had to dig in for the k2togs, the tips damaged each other. And about an inch from the toe-tip, I snapped one. I think for the mitts, I'm going to use the matte finish Inoxes, but I'm going to try sharpening the snapped needle so I can use this set for the second sock (or else resign myself to knitting with four needles instead of five), again for the matching.
I do like the Rauma Finullgarn, and will definitely be trying their baby yarn.
