I just said "yes" to the wee solo quartet bit. Yes, I'll be buried in the middle of four voices (2 soprano, 2 alto, I'll be singing soprano 2, sop 1 and alto 1 are the pro soloists and the other two parts are from the chorus) and it's only 32 measures of actual singing. But. Solo. Part. In. Benaroya. Hall. With. The. Seattle. Symphony. And. Helmuth. Rilling.
*faints*
I chatted for a while with my section leader, who has the second soprano solo bits for the double quartet movement and the trio movement if it is done with soloists rather than chorus, and would have this one as well if I said no. She said "of course it's in my best interest if you say no, because then it's all for me, but in your shoes, I'd cancel my other plans and say yes immediately." We're each going to learn all of the parts in case one of us gets sick, and we'll probably also learn the first parts so we can practice together. She's a little bit annoyed that George didn't ask her to do all of them, but that's annoyance with George and not with me, and if she has to share with anyone, she's glad it's me. Which I completely understand, from all angles.
This means I need to get off my butt and learn the whole piece, since I'd originally planned to skip this concert series entirely.
(for those of you playing at home, this is Mendelssohn's Elijah, movement 35)
