NVC Day One: Arrival and settling in [David & Emma]

Mar 31, 2010 14:24

Em sighed as she dropped her bags into their temporary accommodations while the ship underwent repair. They'd been warned that the environment was warm. After being in space for a while, the heat seemed...rather welcoming. She flopped onto the bed. Almost like home. Probably in the middle of August from how hot it was. The gravity seemed to take ( Read more... )

"Emmy." David grinned down at his wife. "So this is New Vulcan, huh? It's very," He paused momentairly to think of an appropriate word. There wasn't much that he could say about it. The colony was undeniably arid and uncomfortbly like home. "well it's very nostalgic." There, that was a perfectly good word.

She turned to lie on her back. "Difference is, you won't be able to get chicken and waffles out there." she laughed. Em peered at him. "Dead or not, I still don't like grits." She closed her eyes and sighed. "This will be a nice vacation from hanging around space all day."

"No waffles?" David sounded a little disappointed as he pulled a face, sitting down on the edge of the bed. McCoys always loved waffles, they were delicious little slices of heaven. Extremely unhealthy delicious slices of heaven but okay occasionally. "Bah, you never had any taste. Grits are good, proper Southern food." He commented. "I'll tell you somethin' for nothin' Emmy, Old Southern Doctors like me were not meant to go up there." David waved a hand at the ceiling. Space was a dangerous place after all.

She snorted and rolled her eyes. "Good proper Southern food. Never said I was a good, proper Southern girl to start with." She smiled at him. "Must be something about McCoy Men and Space. Joanna seems to be just fine with being in space."

"Space aint natural Em." David shook his head "Man wasn't made to go flyin' about in a glorified tin can. It just aint right. I like my feet firmly on the solid ground." To prove his point he stamped on the floor. "Ah, but y'see that's because McCoy women are made of sterner stuff."

"Of course. How else would they put up with McCoy men?" she grinned. "Now get your ass over here. Apparently, I've got 10 years of cuddling to catch up on." Em patted the space next to her on the large bed. "Wouldn't do well for Lenny to see his folks acting strange around each other."

"Yes Ma'am." He was never one to refuse anything when it came to Emma. Appart from the not-so-secret-secret-sundays that really weren't all that good for her or Lenny. "C'mere you." Lying down properly David pulled an arm around her shoulders and pressed a quick kiss to the top of her head.

She sighed happily as she was drawn into his arms. "Mmmm...definitely missed this. You're definitely back, right? Not going to leave me again?" She reached up to stroke his face. "I'm still getting used to the idea that a decade's passed since I last saw you...still think you're handsome."

"Naw, I'm a ghost really. Goin' to disappear any moment now." He smirked, pressing into her hand. "Decade? So y'mean I've got a decade more of gray hair then you. Well that just aint fair now is it." David's fingers rubbed circles into the side of Emma's arms, trying to sooth her slightly waiting for the tongue lashing for being cheeky.

"Cheeky redneck." Em grinned, snuggling even deeper into him. She raised herself up to look at him with a teasing smile. "Remind me again why I married you? Could've hooked up with any other guy and I just had to settle down with some grumpy ass doctor."

"Lord only knows, Emmy. But I'm glad you settled for the grumpy ass doctor. He was the best one anyhow." David smiled and pressed another kiss to the top of Emma's forehead. This was good, he was alive, he had Emma and he had Lenny. This second life wasn't half as bad as he thought it could be.

Em sighed. "Thinking of spending some girl time with our granddaughter. The grown up version. Then maybe we could use this time to reacquaint ourselves with each other?" she asked, a small teasing tone to her voice.

"Joanna. Damn, I'm old enough to be a pawpaw. Don' even want to think about that." David told her. "Sounds good Emmy." He had missed her, dying so suddenly like that and then with the cancer and Lenny. He had pretty much given up on living, not wanting to be without his wife anymore and fed up of the pain.

She bit her lip. "David..." Maybe this second chance on life was a way to come clean about things. "You know how I've never really talked about life before I moved to Georgia?" she asked quietly.

"Yeah, Emmy. Why? Somethin' you want to tell me?" David prompted a slight spike of concern prickling at his words. It was true that all through knowing each other that he had barely learnt anything about her past, an international woman of mystery indeed.

"Yeah. Something I didn't get to tell you the first time around." Em sighed and sat up, facing him. "David, I...you know I love you. I came to Georgia a clean woman, I'll have you know. I put all of it behind. I..." She worried her lip. "My younger years were a bit wild. I did...well...everything and anything I could get my hands on. And I mean...anything. You name it, I've done it. A real wild child. But I left all that behind when I came to Georgia. Reason...reason why I'm telling you is that...I regressed a bit when I thought you were dead."
