Finally it came time to leave my job in K and pack up and return to Perth. Jamie made five trips during the week in our new Utility and on the last day we filled both cars and drove home. I had the cat in the front, the bird in the back and numerous bits of small furniture. Jamie took the refrigerator in the back and probably Nath I can't quite remember where he was at that point.
It was a long four hour trip, I had to control the cat and say no she may not go in the back and try to eat the bird, I mean, honestly there are limits.
We stopped half way and I let the cat go for a run and do whatever it was she felt she needed to do. She took a long time returning and Jamie was inclined to leave her behind with a tin of cat food and a can opener. Fortunately for her she returned before we left. That cat had so many adventures living with us, she lived for 20 years in human terms I like to think it was our unpredictible lifestyle that kept her alive.
So back to my story. At last we arrived wearily at our destination. Well Jamie arrived first and I arrived after him obviously! I found him outside the Ute on the lawn almost weeping. What can be wrong? I thought. He soon filled me in.
After driving five, four hour trips with no incident he had finally finished. He was so excited he drove right into our car port and was stopped by a loud noise. He had forgotten that our refrigerator was at the back and was too large to fit through the car port. Hence, one dented fridge sat in the back glaring at him. Well we kept the fridge in that condition for sometime before we brought another one. It never failed us, battered and beaten as it was it still worked efficiently. It was a reminder, not sure what the reminder was, but it was reminder none the less. Perhaps the moral of the story is 'look before you leap' or before you drive into a carport with a tall item on the back of your utility'
