Saturday was predictably spent on DIY again. We went to B&Q to replace the marble hearth that had smashed last week. £150 -ouch! but then the bloke pointed out that it was fake marble chippings stuck together, not suitable for solid fuel fires and if we'd tried to use it, it could have melted or caught fire. So we agreed it was a good job that we did break it after all. The bloke who sold us the firebrick and grate and stuff is going to sort us out a cheap replacement as he is a bit of a star. We're getting a boring matt black one but that's better than the highly polished one we had before as that required far too much cleaning which is never a good thing.
We got some textured paint and Benj started the ceiling, getting most of it on himself it has to be said. Bless. He's also put a sealant strip down the side of the bath, mended a broken tap, taken down some brackets, gloss painted bits and bobs, cleaned up lots, mended the tefelone cord - snipped by Alanpig, and generally acted like a proper grown up boy without whining at all whilst i have been a bit pathetic and just stripped the handrail on the stairs and complained about my back hurting. Oh yeah, I also stripped the crappy arch at the top of the stairs and had to be forcibly restrained from hacking the absolutely shite plaster curvy bit to pieces armed only with my trusty chisel.
Then on Sunday night I sent Benj out for whisky, then I drank whisky, lots of it, that sorted my back out. At least until 4am Monday morning when i woke up completely sober and in agony.
