Entry for March 14th, 2006.
OK...some how my last two entries got out of order...weird....so on to day 62:
Worked at Crossroads again today...
Nina and i were working and talking about the MATRA. The MATRA is the new register system we're getting this week. The managers go on about how much easier everything we'll be with it...and then i always sarcastically add that it will bring us world peace. We were looking at the MOD (manager on duty, or as i call it. the manager on demand) sheet to see who was closing and who was here. This little sheet tells us who to call if we need something like change or have a guest situation that needs a manager. We noticed that Adrian, Mel and Josh were all off. Which is weird for Adrian and Mel because they have their two days off on Thursday and Friday and Wednesday and Thursday respectively (Josh's days off are tuesday and wednesday... so it really wasn't weird for him to be gone). We figured this was because the MATRA was rolling out on Thursday and it'd been rumored that all the managers had to be in that day and Friday so Adrian and Mel were taking their days off early. So then I told Nina about what had happened last night with closing Crossroads. She thought it was really funny. then we started talking about Adrian and the other managers while helping guests and running around the Tenth Circle of you know where. So then Nina goes and gets a drink of water from inside Oscar's. I man the Circle by myself for a few until she gets back.
"Guess who's here?" She asked as she came back in.
"I don't know," I said. I hadn't heard anything about any celebrities in the park today.
"Adrian. He's in the back."
"He's not supposed to be here according to the MOD sheet," I said.
"He's in normal clothes."
Of course, we both freak out. It's so weird for us to think of our managers in normal clothes. You get used to seeing them in the collared shirts and dress pants. Actually, it's weird for us to think of them as normal people, as terrible as that sounds. So then comes my next question: "What's he wearing?" That will really tell you what kind of guy your manager is outside of work.
"Well, I was going to get water, and you know how you can see into the money room from the water cooler? I saw this guy in a blue polo shirt and khaki shorts and he turned around and it was Adrian! I almost dropped my cup of water i was so shocked," Nina said.
"I want to go see this!" I said. "But I don't want to be obvious and come right in after you do."
So i decided to bide my time. Half an hour later...i really was thirsty and went to get some water, figurng Adrian would be gone. I go to the water cooler and see....Laura! She had been out for two weeks recovering from tailbone surgery or something. "Laura! Welcome back!" I said.
"Thanks!" She said. I see her looking at my lanyard, and that's true confirmation that Laura is back. "Why do you only have ten pins?"
"They keep falling off," I said.
"Well, we'll have to get you some new ones," Laura said. And she started walking towards the back and out of Oscar's. Now....if you were me, would you have followed her? Does that sound like an invitation to follow her? So anyway...i followed her.
"Why are you following me?" She turned around and asked.
"I thought that;s what you meant," I said.
"It's OK. I just got kind of paranoid, because i wasn't expecting you to be there," she said.
It was a good thing that i followed her. We walked backstage and I see Michael talking with a guy in a blue polo shirt and khakis--Adrian. I did not stare. I glanced over there quickly and continued to follow Laura. She gets me my pins and I head back to the tenth circle. I told Nina that i saw Adrian and it was weird.
"Somehow I could totally see him dressing like a prep," I said.
"Why?" Nina asked.
"He worked at Express in Mississippi for the top seller in the nation. We were talking about it when I had my policies and procedures with him way back when i was training."
"Wow," Nina said. "Funny that the top seller for Express was in Mississippi."
I laughed. "That's what Adrian said."
So then we started talking about the managers and trying to figure out who would wear what. That's what entertained us for the rest of the evening. So now I'm back home at a reasonable hour, but i think i'll head to bed--gotta catch up on some sleep somewhere. later.
