night on the town

We just got back from seeing David Sedaris and Sarah Vowell at the Arlington theater.  He had just gotten back from 3 months in Japan and read from diary entries he took while there, which was hilarious.  She told a story of president Garfield's assassin, and showed the audience how its really a story about the Oneida corporation, and a 19th century utopian christian sex cult in upstate New York.  A very entertaining way to spend an evening.

John Cleese of Monty Python (who lives somewhere in town here) is going to be introducing, commenting on and stirring up controversy at a screening of "The Life of Brian" on campus later this week, which I'm thinking of going to.  And I'm still kicking myself for not going to see poet Mary Oliver, a favorite of mine, when she came to do a reading last week.  I've been surprised at the number of University Arts and Lecture events I've wanted to go see this season.  Another one I missed was a solo discussion panel with the RZA from the Wu-Tang clan.
