I didn't realize it until I was lying in bed last night (well, this morning technically) but it was one year ago yesterday that Ginger came pouncing into our lives!
It seems like yesterday, she was so small and scared. I never thought I'd be a cat person. I was always allergic to cats, and now there is cat hair all over the house, on my clothes, the furniture, even occasionally in our food. Sometimes it makes me crazy, but I wouldn't have it another way.
Something funny (and a bit gross) just occurred to me. James and I went out for an hour or two yesterday evening, to the library and then grabbed some take-out for dinner. Before we left, I inexplicably shut the bathroom door. I don't know what came over me. Now, the litterbox is inside the bathroom. Ginger, however, was not. See where this is going yet? When we got home with our food, Ginger was running around like crazy. It seemed a little odd, but was not totally out of character for her. Eventually she settled down, and short time later I got up to go to the bathroom. First I noticed the shut door. Then I noticed the smell... I carefully stepped from room to room looking for the source, and there, in "my" room, of all places, was a steaming pile of you-know-what. It was our first, real, litterbox malfunction. Happy Anniversary to me!
I've got to give her credit...she did TRY to get my attention first. And luckily, she used the best possible place, outside the litterbox. In said room, was our deflated Aerobed, still waiting to be put away after Krista and Michael's visit. Perhaps Ginger's message was two-fold. Don't shut the bathroom door, and put this away! The actual mess was on the removable and washable fleece "mattress pad." Also lucky, it wasn't really all that messy, and was picked up and disposed of easily. I sprayed the spot with Shout! and put the whole thing in a plastic bag, ready for the next trip to the laundromat. Then I Febreezed the whole room...just to be thorough.
To end on a sweeter note, here is a picture of Ginger. Don't adjust your screens, it's a bit blurry since I didn't want to use the flash:
