Television

• Trapped. Finished last week, still missing it, might well re-watch at some point. I find the endings of most mysteries unsatisfying but this really worked for me.
• The People v. O. J. Simpson. Surprisingly good. Some of it is played, entirely fittingly, as a farce, but it also sensitively explores the complexity of the race and gender politics of the trial. Also it's fascinating to see an event that I remember turned into, effectively, a historical drama.
• The Night Manager. Seems to be the appointment television in my house at the moment. I don't know that I'll think about it at all when it's finished, but it's involving while it lasts and the scenery is amazing. This has made me like Tom Hiddleston slightly more than I thought I did.
• A Chance to Dance. OK, so this is a reality show about creating a dance company, but it features the BalletBoyz who are proper dancers (ex Royal Ballet) and choreographers. You have to ignore some of the 'reality show' overlay but I'm enjoying it nonetheless.
• Follow the Money. New Danish scandi-noir on BBC Four. Haven't started watching yet but looking forward to it.

Books

• Currently reading another romance novel in Icelandic (as opposed to an Icelandic romance novel which might just be more interesting). Not proud, but... you know, screw it, I am proud. Being able to sit down in the morning over tea and read a chapter of a novel in Icelandic is good enough for me, whatever the novel might be. I've classed this as 'taking it easy,' but is it, really? No.
• Alastair Reynolds, Poseidon's Wake. What is it with Alastair Reynolds? I used to class him as my favourite contemporary SF writer. I loved most of the Revelation Space series and I've re-read those books many times. But there was a discernible drop-off represented by The Prefect, Century Rain and Pushing Ice and then everything since then has been really mediocre. I'm not even certain that I'll finish this.
• L. P. Hartley, The Boat. Really loved The Go-Between and therefore was very excited to find this in a charity shop, forgetting that I'd found The Hireling distinctly average. This one seems more towards the latter than the former, sadly. Or maybe I just wasn't in the mood for reading last night? I'll give it another chance.
