Various observations

Western Easter is coming up next weekend. I might end up going to church, but we'll see. In response to all those posts with the well-meaning caveat "Happy Easter to those who celebrate it," I always want to reply, "I do celebrate it, but not now." This would not be terribly generous so I thought I'd note the instinct here instead.

This year Orthodox Easter is very late, on 1 May. My mother pointed out that this means I could do an absolutely epic celebration, starting with a late meal at the Gardeners' Arms (as I always do), moving on to the Orthodox church in North Oxford for the Easter services, going to the epic fast-breaking lamb dinner that always follows, and probably finishing up there just in time to head down to Magdalen Bridge for May morning.

My reply was "if I were ten years younger..." My poor mother; I think you really know you're old when your daughter starts saying things like that.

At the very least, I will do the pub-plus-church bit. If anyone fancies joining me (Orthodox Easter is quite the experience), do let me know.

Reading the 'in-flight magazine' for Great Western Railway while on the way to Cardiff this week, I discovered that one doesn't have to go all the way to Iceland for the whole outdoor natural thermal spa experience. Thermae Bath Spa - look at that view! I feel a bit dim for not considering the possibilities of Bath earlier (the clue is in the name). Already wondering when I can fit in a trip, although 33.5C is not terribly warm as hot baths go, so maybe I should wait till later in the spring.

I've been preoccupied enough with work that I've been doing an absolutely terrible job commenting on fic. Lots of great stuff has been posted, including
nineveh_uk's Patrick Leigh Fermor vampire crossover and
lilliburlero's Et ades sera l'alba, but it turns out that I've just been going around blithely kudoing, and not commenting at all. Sorry! It doesn't mean I haven't loved them. Maybe over the long Easter weekend (the one that I get off from work, that is), I'll sit down and go on a massive commenting binge. Stranger things have happened.

lilliburlero has been in Oxford doing research, which has been excellent. We had dinner together on Thursday and Friday nights, with lots of giddy fannish discussion probably fuelled by a bottle of wine in each case. But having fun is tiring! Tonight it's a night in for me...
