I highly recommend using the Counselor-O-Matic because it will sort of take all of this information and spew out some schools for you to look into, since like really most of us are probably not experts on East Coast liberal arts schools.
Also as some general "been there done that" advice, you might want to trim down the list of schools you're planning to apply to. I know it's hard, but you'll do better if you focus on the ones you really want now instead of expending all sorts of time and effort into applying for them all and then having to make the same decisions months down the road. You're going to get into colleges; you're a good student. Don't feel like you need to apply all over.
Haha hey you don't have to tell ME not to apply so many places. It's my parents. The list of where I really want to apply is much shorter but they keep yelling at me to make a list of 10 freaking schools I like. I'm basically just grasping at straws...like "Oh this one looks pretty. Might as well put it on the list".
And I have done counselor-o-matic. Did it Soph year. It doesn't really help me, but oh well.
Thanks for the advice. I wish it were as simple as you say, but I've got icky parents to deal with.
Maybe you should do it again seeing as now you're a senior and you've got your most up-to-date scores and GPA and all that stuff, and it'll give you a list of safety schools to start working with. And maybe you should narrow down the list of schools you doubt you'll get into or something if you're really confident you won't get into them or something and make it more even for reaches and safeties.. Just so the ratio's, well, even.
We have the exact same high school stats... I was 3.6, 29 ACT, 1270 SAT, and ranked 21st out of 163.
I'd still apply. You never know. I ended up going to third-tier schools for my undergrad and master's degrees, and I was nurtured and gained a great deal of academic confidence.
My suggestion would be to also check out state schools that have honors colleges and liberal arts hnors options as your safeties. Here in Michigan, the Residential College of the University of Michigan and James Madison College at Michigan State are great options, not only as admissions safeties for someone with your profile, but they also give good value for their dollar. Where you go for undergrad matters, but your graduate institution matters far more.
I know this whole college thing feels horrible and long and just...grrr...BUT...I know you can do it, and I know that if you REALLY want to get into one of those schools, you DEFINITELY will, so have hope! :)
