MovieWatch Part II, no I haven't been doing much else, you?

basically...
I need to read more books.  or any books, for that matter, aside from Wimsey and WashU's summer reading book (aka the book that a WashU prof had written, sold, was bought for us and then personally delivered to our doorstep).  but I digress.

up top now, firstly
History of the World Part I: it was my first time seeing the entire thing, and I must say that this is ridiculousness at its best, at least, the segment for the Roman Empire.  Monty Python comes nowhere close to Miracle, the Giant Joint, and my favorite of course...the Last Supper.  though Jews in Space came as a close second...

Memento: if you've seen Fight Club (later to be discussed) and liked it, you will like Memento.  it's the same sort of woahhh hold up lemme replay this 5 more times feeling.  if you do watch it, I also highly recommend reading a detailed, professional review of the movie afterwards in case you missed any key flashes.

Grave of the Fireflies: anyone will tell you this- this is an excellent, excellent movie.  like most asianic movies, the graphics are a Britney Spears sort of fakeness that makes you want to bury your head and cry, but plotwise, no movie I think is nearly as accurate in portraying the emotional backlash caused by wartime.  afterwards, I pretty much wanted to shrivel up and die, but it is completely worth seeing, a movie that everyone should watch.

Grease 2: well you know, I couldn't have just watched deeply moving movies.  um, I've never actually seen Grease, so I can't give a comparison or anything (though Sandy's name changed to Stephanie?), but there is only one thing that makes this movie worthwhile: MICHAEL.  OMG Michael.  (spoilers ahead)  so Michael is this British boy who just transferred, stright A, stright-laced, and fallen completely head over heels for Stephanie.  oh, he is sooo earnest.  one problem: she only likes wild biker types.  so then, he goes and earns money by offering to write essays for the stupid dregs of the school for a nominal fee, and with the money purchases a motobike, and, with practice, becomes something of Mr. Studliest Straight A Student Ever.  araghhhh.  and then there is this one scene where Stephanie is lighting up a ciggy, and suddenly he is there with a lighter not two inches from her and he is all mysterious but you know who he is and and and ::dies::

Pulp Fiction: umm, I don't really know why people like this movie so much.  I didn't dislike it, in fact, I was downright amazed by how controversial everything was.  but it wasn't really moving or anything, more just, oh.  she just ODed.  next scene.  oh.  he is being raped.  next.  oh.  it's over.  okay.

Fight Club: hey, did you know that this was the same guy that was in American History X?  well anyways, good movie.  slightly less impressive since I'd seen Memento first, and because I didn't particularily like Brad Pitt in this movie, and because yesterday when I went out to eat the only thing that I could think about was whether the waiter/cook/busboy had jacked off in my chowder, but w/e.
