Yep.

I'm so pissed about this birth control/religious freedom thing. Look, I get that Catholics have long believed in the "be fruitful and multiply" thing and thus are against the use of birth control. My godmother is Catholic and instead of using birth control herself, she had her non-Catholic husband get snipped once they decided that they didn't want to have more kids. However, she would NEVER tell me that I shouldn't use the pill. Religious freedom (IMO) means that YOU get to believe whatever you want. If, like George Carlin, you worship the sun but pray to Joe Pesci, I'm cool with that. However, that freedom also allows me to believe whatever the hell I want. What it doesn't mean is that YOU get to force me to pray to Joe Pesci because I work for you. The same applies to health care. No matter WHAT. I don't need birth control pills for contraception. It would be impossible for me to get pregnant, as I'm pretty sure I'll never get near a penis again. But I DO need to take it because I form dangerous cysts on my ovaries that, if not prevented by the pill stopping ovulation, can only be removed by surgery. I've already been through a laproscopy once to remove three cysts from my ovaries, each over 2cm in diameter. Had those cysts been any bigger, I would have had to have an open abdominal surgery, which is MUCH more dangerous. As it was, my OBGyn said that she had to make one of the incisions another cm longer just to get the 4cm cyst out. But, I can prevent all of that just by taking the Pill. Right now, I spend $600 per year on birth control. I'm so thrilled that Obama has fought to make sure that women have free access to birth control. I'm NOT thrilled that MEN (for the most part) are trying to keep women from having access to it.

I worked for a Catholic hospital when I was 19. They didn't perform abortions on the premises. I got that. However, I had no problem getting birth control coverage through my insurance company. I don't think it would have EVER registered with the priests and nuns that ran the hospital to make sure our insurance company wouldn't cover contraception.

I'm NOT okay with others forcing their political and religious views on me. The Constitution allows me to think and believe what I want, not what politicians or my priest say I should. And I especially have a problem when those beliefs interfere with my health decisions. You may not believe that abortion is alright, or that women should use birth control. I'm fine with that. I may not agree with you, but I'm not going to force you to give up those beliefs. However, that's what's happening right now: women are being forced to give up their right to access health care because of some people's beliefs. NOT COOL, and NOT what the writers of the Constitution intended.

In other news... It's been raining like crazy these past few days. Today, we had a high in the 80s. Tomorrow, it's going to be back in the low 60s. This weather is INSANE.

I've discovered the only way I can watch anything about politics is The Daily Show and Colbert Report. If it's not immediately followed by a joke, the news would cause me to try and kill my TV. It almost happened last night: the urge to throw something at the stupidity coming from my TV.

I've had *cough* female issues this past week. I tried over-the-counter treatment, but it's not fully done the job. What I need is a systemic medication to clear up the infection. However, I can't get in to see a doctor. I went on Monday to the clinic thinking I could see someone. I arrived at 9am. I was told my appointment would be at 1pm. Um HELL no. I still haven't been able to get in to see someone. I'm going to try and see if the wonderful receptionists I see when seeing Monica can get me in with Dr. Hall sometime early next week. That'd be fantastic. GRRRRRR.

Finally, I found a couple of new authors that I LOVE. Daniel Silva writes espionage novels centered around a former Mossad assassin who is an art restorer in his off-time. The other is Susan R. Sloan. She writes courtroom dramas. I read her book, Act of God in one day. It was THAT good.
