1. I GOT MY E-READER TO ACTUALLY DOWNLOAD A BOOK FROM THE PUBLIC LIBRARY!!

Okay. I realize this doesn't seem like much, but this has been a day-long struggle. I finished my previous book last night, and the one I still have checked out is a very early Clive Cussler. His writing is bugging me right now, and the other two books I've requested haven't made their way to my nearby library yet (because its fiction collection is abysmal). I then thought, "Hey, I have my 'book' and I bet I can find some e-book to read in the meantime." In the time I had before I had to leave for therapy this morning, I attempted to download the file from the library's website. It turns out it comes in a format that requires some kind of software to read, so I gave up and decided to pick up the process when I got back home.

I poked around on the library's e-catalog site and it said that I needed to download an app for the android OS on my 'book.' I tried that, but I couldn't get it to download and install. I finally figured out how to get it from the software's website, and not from the android app store. Once that was installed, I attempted to download the book again. And, while it downloaded successfully, it was impossible to read. The format was all wonky and the writing was so wide that I'd literally have to scroll back and forth across the page (even in landscape mode) just to read a full sentence.

So I went back to the libarary's website to try and figure out if there was something I was missing. It mentioned that for Nook readers (of which mine is a generic version), you have to download a DIFFERENT software program on to your PC, and then transfer the files to your reader. Okay. So I downloaded that software and downloaded it. And the damn file had some kind of error. At this point I was incredibly frustrated. The library has an "ask a librarian" webchat feature, so I decided to try that before getting dressed again and trekking out to the library in person. The chick was basically reading me the same information from the library's help site that I had read and had issues with. What was the most annoying, actually, was when she answered my explanation of the problem with, "wierd." Yeah, she misspelled "weird." And, as with all things one has a problem with and is asking advice about, the second program magically started working. I downloaded the book FOR THE FOURTH TIME, got it transferred to my 'book,' and it formatted decently enough that I'm not feeling like needing to scream AAARRRRGGGGHHHHH at the universe, which is a decided improvement. Whew.

ETA (1.5 hours later): I just got a call from the library saying those books I requested have arrived. OY VEY.

2.  WE HAVE A GAME TOMORROW, AND SPORTS ILLUSTRATED HAS DECREED THAT UT WILL WIN OVER BYU 20-16. "Texas' revamped running game got off to a good start last week against Rice, led by freshman Malcolm Brown's 86 yards on 16 carries. This week the 'Horns will face a much tougher BYU defensive front, one that held Ole Miss to 2.2 yards per carry last week. But Texas' defensive line is also stout and will bring too much pressure for Cougars quarterback Jake Heaps." Good news. Even better news? TEXAS IS RANKED AGAIN! WE'RE #24 BABY (in the AP and ESPN rankings, but we're #21 according to USA Today's poll)! WOOOOO!!! Even better better news?? The game will be airing on ESPN2 tomorrow night so we can actually watch it. You never realize how much you take stuff like that for granted until you have to listen to the game on the radio and visualize the whole damn thing.

si, yay, football, books, library, ut, cranky, annoyance
