Weird

I just spent over an hour reading old notes from middle and high school. I'm trying to downsize my collection of such things because a) I'm a pack rat, and b) I'm moving! I was reading, smiling, laughing, crying. And to my note-writing friends:

1. I don't know how I would've gotten through that class senior year without all of your crazy stories and drawings. Going through them again literally made me laugh out loud. You cheered me up when no one else knew how with your wit and creativity!

2. Your cookies were NOT burnt... I loved them! And I love (<4) you! I am so glad we got to know each other in high school. Even though you're thousands of miles away, you are still one of my best friends in the world. I hope you can come see me soon!

3. We were pretty close in high school, exchanging notes in French class about our man troubles. You are such an insightful person. I was so happy to see you again last weekend, but next time it will be under better circumstances.

4. Back in the good ol' days of Oak Crest, we tried to keep each other sane. Reading about all of your boy problems confused the hell out of me tonight! I'm glad that our awkward way of meeting each other in middle school blossomed into a great friendship. I hope you're doing well!

5. All of your letters were so beautiful and heartfelt. I don't know how I let things end the way they did... I realized long ago that it was my fault. I'm sorry we're not friends anymore because you were one of the best friends I had back in middle and high school. I know how much you cared about me and you don't know how much that means to me, even now. I wish you and your family all the best.

6. I have no idea now what we were writing about in all of those notes... and I don't think we knew back then, either. A-wog-a-wog-a-meatball! I couldn't stop laughing. I'm so glad I saw you a few weeks ago. It sounds like things are going really well and I'm glad to hear you're telling stupid people to fuck off! Love you, homie!

7. You're mah best fwen, too. Thank you for all of the mixed CDs and for Valentine's Day dinner and for holiday cards from you AND Ralph. Love you!! We need to see each other more!

8. From your notes I saved I'd say we were pretty good friends back in high school. I'll be honest -- I was stuck on you for quite a while. I don't really know what happened but I think it had to do with your need to figure out who you are, and I'm glad that you're happy. Best wishes.

9. You are my oldest friend, and looking back on notes that are now ten years old, I see that our friendship hasn't changed after all this time. You are so special to me and I know we'll be friends forever.

10. I can barely decipher our shorthand from way back when we were #1 and #2. Even though the content of your notes has changed drastically throughout the years (from guys to bands to clothes), your handwriting hasn't changed ONE BIT. You've always been the same friend to me and I love you for that. I am so happy for you -- there are so many exciting things coming up in the next year of your life. I am thrilled to be celebrating ten years of friendship with you.
