It's been awhile since my last comics post and since I haven't read a trade in about two months or read this week's books, I thought I'd make some comments on what I've read recently separated by publishing company. Caution - story content from the last few months will probably be spoiled for the books that I talk about, I try to stay vague for the most part.
DC
Booster Gold - I'll admit I haven't seen much of a difference between Geoff Johns, Chuck Dixon, Rick Remender or now Dan Jurgens writing the book. It's not a spectacular book by any means and with the departure of Booster's sister Michelle, my interest in the book is starting to wane.
Action Comics/Supergirl/Superman Titles - As much as I love how Geoff Johns has started to revitalizing of the Superman titles a few years ago, I do not like at all what they're doing to Lucy Lane and General Lane (who reminds me like a bad version of Betty's dad from Incredible Hulk - General Ross) and not a fan of Chris Kent either. Outside of that I like the Nightwing/Flamebird aspect of Action Comics and that Supergirl is a much more respected title now. Losing interest with the Superman on New Krypton storyline though.
Green Lantern - The introducing of all the different rings and the story of Hal Jordan the technicolored Lantern is starting to get a bit long in the tooth. I'm itching for Blackest Night to start already and I fear it will be an agonizing drawn out process like all EVENTS have been lately.
Justice Society of America - I will miss Geoff Johns on this title, but I'm hopeful that Sturges and Willingham do well following him. This feels like a very underrated book considering Johns was writing it but it has been the darling team book for the universe while JLA has suffered severely. I've come to enjoy Stargirl as one of my favorite DCU characters and I'm hoping that the inclusion of the Batsons in recent storylines will bring about the revival of those characters (I hated what has happened with Mary Marvel the last few years).
Marvel
Deadpool - Continues to be my most enjoyable read of the Marvel Universe. The art is lovely, and DP is hilarious (I hope the movie version can live up to that). Hard to believe Liefeld created him.
Cable/X-Force - While both series have had times of shaky art, I've enjoyed reading them for the most part. Unfortunately this Messiah War crossover is starting to get boring for me as I have no interest in Stryfe or Bishop. I'm interested to see what is in store for Hope.
Ms Marvel - I don't like at all what happened to Carol, but I must concede that putting Moonstone in this role has made me like her as a character more ( used to always think Songbird > Moonstone when reading Thunderbolts).
Iron Man - I hope the running from the law bit doesn't last much longer because it's becoming boring. I'm not a fan of the painted look of the book, but I overlook it to see the awesomeness of Pepper getting her own suit and Maria Hill being pretty bad ass. The rest not that interesting.
Indie
Spawn - I've been reading the book since McFarlane and Portacio came on to reinvent the title and I don't know what to think. The pace is very slow going but I hope they are successful in bringing back interest to the series.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 8 - It feels like the tv show whenever I read an issue. Sometimes I enjoy the story, sometimes not, but always the fun feel of the series and characters is right there on the pages. I love the art lately and I almost wish I had the tv series on DVD. At least the WB seasons. I wish the Angel comic book was as interesting/good.
