I...have no idea where this came from.
On Finally, After Nearly A Year, Feeling Adequately Rested
If, in retirement, I am finally free
To restore that which working life depletes
With its demands, then with this liberty
Let me rest 'twixt ozone-scented sheets,
'Neath duvet clouds, by memory foam upheld,
The city's urgent roar and grind, and streams
Of winter's paltry light, alike, dispelled
By double panes and blackout shades and dreams;
And sleep until, with sleep replete, I wake up,
Then lie abed till getting up seems good,
And go a day or two without my makeup,
And leave the house only in search of food:
It's been a year and now I'm getting bored,
But retirement thus my spirit has restored.
