Pisanki!!!

Mar 21, 2010 20:07

This weekend I hosted a get together for some ladies from Knit Night to have a nice brunch, and learn about traditional Polish Easter egg coloring.
We ate lots of good food, and got busy making some Pisanki (aka, Easter Eggs). The technique is very similar to making Batik fabric... You use wax to protect the areas of the egg shell you do not want to be colored, and you do consecutive baths in dyes from lightest to darkest. Wax gets melted off with a hot candle.
Alek wanted to come and help out too. His fingernails are still purple today, day later, and I imagine they will be purple for another week or so.
