Going home tomorrow--to see an art show, and go to see Oculus in Ithaca on Saturday (hopefully, with katelyn!) Happy holidays to all!

What did you do in 2006 that you'd never done before?
I attended my first hippie festival with
ibesky. What a fun time that was! I can't wait for next year. I also purchased my first gym membership, and stopped it after a month because we moved farther away--that, and I was getting awfully lazy. I worked as a line cook at Miss Albany diner for two weekends--that didn't last long, but it was a learning experience.
Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Hahaha no, no kept resolutions. I think I may give this next year a fair chance though. We'll see how long I make it this time.
Did anyone close to you give birth?
My sisters-in-law popped out kids right before the new year ^_^ and, uh, my brain gave birth to ideas... yeaaaaah.
Did anyone close to you die?
My grandmother.
What countries did you visit?
Ireland... as usual. I would have to say that Gathering of the Vibes was a different country on its own...
What would you like to have in 2007 that you lacked in 2006?
Less stress from school work. Cleaner household environment. These things will come since I'll have a lighter course load next semester.
What date(s) from 2006 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
More so a season--this summer. I had my first internship, I found out about my Dad's cancer diagnosis, went to Ireland, came back, went to a lot of shows (Phil Lesh & Friends--twice, 311, Gathering of the Vibes), got a new tattoo, did a fair amount of traveling... it really was a period of growth for me.
What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Letting it go and letting it all hang out--I stopped worrying about being judged all the time (thank you hippies!) Learning to be a bit more responsible for the world around me. Putting out some really awesome papers. Jumping into the fire and working as a line cook is something I'm pretty proud of.
What was your biggest failure?
Procrastination like a mo'fo. This semester was a lesson in what NOT to do while at school.
Did you suffer any illness or injury?
The ankle sprain from hell. That was a painful, ouchy incident.
What was the best thing you bought?
Recently? A ticket to Seattle to see Iris* ^_^ Also: A kick-ass haircut.
Whose behavior merited celebration?
I loudly applaud
dzuunmod--he's gone through so much this year, and he's come out as a better man. Also,
lilnaked66 for boldly going places that people dare to dream about.
indigo786 for reminding me what's great about being a woman and for her uncompromising sense of self. Oh, and Bill--for putting up with me.
Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Me...... I really sucked this semester. Good thing though: it'll get better!
Where did most of your money go?
Rent, electricity bill, food. Definately food--we've ordered in and gone out to eat waaaaay too much.
What did you get really, really, really excited about?
The various concerts I attended this year.
What song will always remind you of 2006?
What songs won't remind me? A smattering of Grateful Dead songs ("Eyes of the World", "Shakedown Street", "The Music Never Stopped"), 311's "Gap", Panic! At the Disco's "Time to Dance", J-san & the Analogue Sons "Cadillac Blue", and... oh man. I could go on forever.
Compared to this time last year, are you:
happier or sadder? Both. Some things have made me happier, and others have made me sadder. It's an equilibrium that I maintain fairly well.
thinner or fatter? Fatter, definately. Rich food, lack of exercise, isolation at a desk for hours at a time....
richer or poorer? Richer, actually. I've had more money-making opportunities... yet I always feel poorer.
What do you wish you'd done more of?
Leave a household more often for the outdoors. I became quite the home-body this year, and part of me regrets not trying to go out into the world more often.
What do you wish you'd done less of?
Ordered food/eating out at places... so much money gone down the drain for the sake of laziness! I would've liked to eat less, in general.
How will you be spending Christmas?
At my Mom's house, with Bill and one very neurotic kitty.
Did you fall in love in 2006?
Even more so ^_^
How many one-night stands?
Nada.
What was your favorite TV program?
Grey's Anatomy rocked my world this year. CSI, Top Chef, and Project Runway ruled my boob tube too.
What was the best book you read?
.....I read books? I read some awesome articles for one of my classes... i finished a few David Eddings books, but i wouldn't call them the best I've ever read... "Mountains Beyond Mountains" by Tracey Kidder was inspiring.
What was your greatest musical discovery?
This was a year of musical discoveries! I had finally decided that listening to the same music over and over again, while enjoyable, was getting stale--so I forced myself to expand and explore... and I found:
Say Anything,
Rise Against,
J-San and the Analogue Sons,
Oculus,
Damian Marley,
She Wants Revenge,
Death Cab for Cutie,
Gnarls Barkley,
Keller Williams,
The Killers,
Panic! At the Disco,
The Legion of Doom,
The Mars Volta,
Sound Tribe Sector 9,
Team Sleep,
Yonder Mountain String Band, and many more that I'm just blanking out on.
What did you want and get?
A wedding in a great location ^_^
Feline companionship
Great friends
Great concerts.
a near-4.0
What did you want and not get?
More LJ comments... but then again, I don't post often, and when I do, I don't post much.
A 4.0 semester (sooooo clooooose)
A cleaner house
What was your favorite film of this year?
Clerks II!
What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
Had a great party--tons of people showed up, got drunk and had fun. Marc cracked me up with his fluffernutter-ingestion and curling up into a ball in the guest room.
What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
A maid or a housekeeper. My house has rarely been clean, and as much as I'd like to make excuses, it really was something that I didn't keep up with. It would've been nice to have help =P but I can't blame him entirely.
How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2006?
Comfort, but increasingly professional. I'm slowly growing out of the punk-rock look, and leaning more towards a simple, earthy look.
What kept you sane?
Amazing friends--people who shared in my agony, and laughed at my jokes.
Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
The question is--who didn't I fancy the most? I was certainly lusting after a fair number of hotties.
What political issue stirred you the most?
The elections this year... but honestly it was my Principles of Public Health class that opened my eyes to a number of issues (where our tax money goes, farming practices, water conservation, among others)
Who did you miss?
My family--definately missed them. Iris*--but we talk regularly online, so the sting is dulled. Marc--but he's a frequent visitor.
Who was the best new person you met?
SPH crew--Laura, Lindsay, Lindsey, Eric, Katherine, Marty, Lawrence, Eileen, Meghan, Kate-Rose, oh christ--the whole freakin' school. Jess Werder, especially. I love those people. I will be very sad to leave them.
Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2006:
"To thine own self be true" rings quite resoundingly with me. I finally found a world that accepts me on my own terms--it's wonderfully refreshing to find that it's ok to be you, and that people are OK with that. It's something you're told from day one, but it takes a while to sometimes find that it's true.
Also: do not put off things until last minute. It's not worth the trouble.
And: it pays to pause and think before you speak. That's been super-helpful this year.
Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
"It's my dick in a box!" (hahaha just kidding)
From the Grateful Dead, "Eyes of the World":
Right outside this lazy summer home
you don't have time to call your soul a critic, no
Right outside the lazy gate of winter's summer home
wondering where the nuthatch winters
Wings a mile long just carried the bird away
*chorus*
Wake up to find out
that you are the eyes of the World
but the heart has its beaches
its homeland and thoughts of its own
Wake now, discover that you
are the song that the morning brings
but the heart has its seasons
its evenings and songs of its own
There comes a redeemer
and he slowly too fades away
There follows a wagon behind him
that's loaded with clay
and the seeds that were silent
all burst into bloom and decay
The night comes so quiet
and it's close on the heels of the day
*chorus*
Sometimes we live no
particular way but our own
Sometimes we visit your country
and live in your home
Sometimes we ride on your horses
Sometimes we walk alone
Sometimes the songs that we hear
are just songs of our own
