25th and 26th of May - Geek Pride Day and National Senior Health & Fitness

May 26, 2010 21:44

So I'm a bit of a Geek. I know what a d20 is, I know at least three complex and entirely fictional mythologies (Including both The Cthulhu and Mushroom Kingdom Mythos) I attend Zombie Shuffles,  I can probably list most of Batman's Rogues Gallery off by heart. And I use terms like Rogues Gallery, so, like I said, it's no secret that I'm a geek.

Most of my friends are Geeks as well, of some sort of another. As you all saw from Star Wars Day (LINK ME) Max is something of a Star Wars Geek. Seb is a different kind of Geek, but a Geek nonetheless, he pretty much taught me everything I know about the Marvel and DC universes, and, even though he is not so much loving the comics nowadays, at one point he had a cupboard full of action figures. John plays Russian videogames and gets frighteningly passionate about the lack of Four-Player Split Screen. Michelle would dissect you in a second if she got the chance, and be able to name everything she found. And Wills makes robots for a living.

WARNING: I may be lying.

Point is Nerds. And Nerds in need of some pride. Maybe our struggle is not as big as that of the Gay community, or as important as that of the racially segregated African Americans, but.... well, no actually, just that. It's not as important and we don't deserve the pride. But hey, free pride.

"What the fuck are you talking about?"

I got off topic pretty quickly up there, sorry. I suppose what I'm trying to say is that Nerds get Pride today, and that is not a problem.

Happy Nerd Pride Day!

So National Senior Health and Fitness Day. Well, unless you want me to age rapidly (a power I do possess) I cannot celebrate today. I can, however, describe in excruciating detail an old person exercising:

She stretches her overly skinny leg over the Stationary-Bike, the tendons become painfully visible beneath the aging, near-transparent skin. She grips the handlebars with her talon like hands, her fingernails visibly jagged, her knuckles like walnuts. She begins to peddle, at first she seems ok, her legs pump and she makes small painful gasps every time she pushes her legs down; she reaches her cut off point, but continues pumping iron because she still has several minutes until her bridge game starts. She begins to sweat, her gym shorts (which hang incredibly loosely from her tiny hips, become soaked with her salty effluence. Her face has become red and angry, beads of sweat tracing the wrinkles on her forehead; she pushes herself too hard, her face contorts, and she has a heart attack.

She survives but decides never to exercise again.

Happy Senior Health & Fitness Day
