I have availed of a free movies trial(delivered right to my doorstep!). We need to make a movie queue and I have had a mind block now at this crucial moment! I know there is a gazillion movies I want to watch...but couldn't think of any. Somehow reached the 80's pop culture page and ordered Some kind of wonderful, The breakfast club, sixteen ( Read more... )

ANYTHING by Studio Ghibli. They're wonderful, wonderful films. My favourite Ghibli film is "Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind".
What else...
The Rocky Horror Picture Show
This is Spinal Tap
Clue
Ghost World
Muriel's Wedding
Donnie Darko

Thanks! I have never seen anything by studio Ghibli so looking forward to experiencing Nausicaa. Added almost all of the others you recommended-you have a cool taste in films! And I LOVE Muriels Wedding-one of my all time faves what with all that awesome music and that Waterloo feature! :)

Quick warning- whilst Grave of the Fireflies (by Ghibli) is stunning, it's INCREDIBLY depressing due to the subject matter. So if you're looking for cheering up I'd go with My Neighbor Totoro or Kiki's Delivery Service.

you have a cool taste in films!
Hehe, flattery will get you everywhere!

Just looking through my DVDs to see what else I would suggest...

Fantasy:
Labyrinth (with David Bowie in a codpiece!)

Comedy:
Dogma
Shaun of the Dead (a romantic comedy...with zombies!)
Hot Fuzz
Little Nicky
The Addams Family
Addams Family Values
Dude, Where's my Car?
Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure
Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey
Elvira, Mistress of the Dark
UHF
Any film by Monty Python (especially Holy Grail)

Drama:
Lost in Translation
Memoirs of a Geisha (I also recommend the book)
Gran Torino

Eye-candy!:
Francis Ford Coppola's Bram Stoker's Dracula (Gary Oldman ftw)
The Crow (don't bother with the sequels)
Edward Scissorhands (made me cry!)
Sleepy Hollow

Horror:It (Based on the Novel by Stephen King ( ... )

Shaun of the Dead is love, I have that dvd (which is a big thing for me, because I'm CHEAP!)! And I watch Bill and Ted's everytime it comes on TV...(you've got my sense of humour figured out:D)...American Werewolf in London appeals a lot as does It...thanks, dear!

Got to add Little Shop of Horrors to the list (the '86 musical version more than the 1960 original)

And of course a random handful of Charlie Kaufman - Being John Malkovich, Adaptation and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind should do.

Some Cohen brothers perhaps? Pretty much anything of theirs, but certainly O Brother Where Art Thou and Fargo, Hudsucker Proxy if you're feeling in the mood for a little screwball, The Big Lebowski if you're feeling - experienced...

Meh, I watch movies to be entertained - I don't do bleak and existential very often :-) Little Shop, O Brother and Hudsucker certainly shouldn't give you too many nightmares, Lebowski and Adaptation are superbly crafted, but perhaps less overtly upbeat, Eternal Sunshine can be a little bitter-sweet in parts but well worth it and Malkovich... Just add it to the list already. :-)

I have seen being John Maolkovich (gr8 movie!), Big Lebowski too but it didnt create any great impression on me (maybe I was too young, wth an underdeveloped sense of humour;p) Added/ing the others!
