(card by Moony at Universal Board Card Challenge) I've been cleaning the house, taking out trash, and watching 'The History Channel' who has had a wonderful day of programming. I just finished watching 'The History of God' which is brilliantly done, with some very interesting ideas presented. One Rabbi was talking about the importance of atheism, which saves Religion from become bound in tradition without relevance to people's lives. But I was most drawn to the Greek Orthodox Priest who was the only one on the whole show who refered to God as 'He or She'. He spoke at length about how the modern funeral arrangments have made death a greater mystery, far more frightening to us than it was to ancient man. And has made us even more disconnected from any hope of an afterlife, because we are in such denial about dying that we never truly confront our hopes (esperance...remember my Yoga Sutra cours?) for our future relationship with God and/or the Absolute.
Makes me think I should look more closely at Greek Orthodoxy, because they are very much directed toward personal evolution to Spiritual Enlightenment (according to things said during this program about the split between the Roman Catholic and Greek Church).
