Liminal Thoughts
Prefacing this with a note to Modest Mouse: you ruined Cowboy Dan. Really - the song's so aching and just fucking creepy until you hit about two minutes, the refrain changes, and the whole thing goes to pieces. Same with Draminine. Cut things off, because you can only hold beautiful for so long before you just start grasping at air.
Now, storytime.
I've been thinking about this fic a lot for a while now. Have most of it planned out in my head if not on paper, but I think I want to toy with the structure a little more. Sheehan's class has got me really liking the idea of film structure applied to a story (or at least film techniques translated onto paper - Dos Passos and montage for reference). I need to watch a hell of a lot of Kubrik hopefully this weekend or next to nail some of the finer details - he actually manages to hold onto the fucking beautiful for an hour or more, and it fits in perfect with what I'd thought of for insanity scenes.
And Gilliam. Nostalgia Critic's review of Brazil has me aching to see it.
But mostly, trying to see what idea I like better. Actually having him see his body start decaying, or have his mind shut down and then reawaken to find what he's become. First gets me my lovely body horror bits, second gets me a fuckton of delusions to toy with.
..mostly, I'm thinking about this instead of answering "Why I want to be a Customs Person". /sigh
