There was nothing special about the beginning of the day. Malignant Mali (aka “Jingles”) picked me up, and then swung by to get Kei-chan (with her Bobobie Tony, Nathaniel). We rode the metro to the Smithsonian and had Jingles call _MH, to make our location known. Once we found each other, we made quick introductions that were soon forgotten and walked to the park for our first photoshoot.
I was the official carrier of Jingles’ doll, Nachi, a Dollzone Shoyo head on a Doll in Mind Odelia body . We found a tree and some grass and decided to do an impromptu (and quick) photoshoot. And then, the reaching into bags began. First, _MH’s pink-clad Dollzone Feilian, Alicia was propped up against the tree while her owner showed off an adorable wa-loli (in red/white) outfit that she had made, and let Nachi borrow a white fur wig to cover her poor, bald head. Then, aernath pulled out a selection of shoes for Luis, the Bobobie Apollo that _MH also brought. Edo Elric was content to lean Edo, her Yo-SD, against the tree and take photos.
I was the only one without a doll, and so, Luis became my ward for the day, and Jingles carried Nachi. We then trekked to find refreshments for the crew, and I was assigned Doll Babysitter. All resinkids were placed on the table, and I ate my packed sandwich and drank of my green tea fount. I had already found that Luis and his hair did not agree with any method of holding that I had, and so, I resorted to clamping my hand down on the wig. It complied…for now.
Where did we want to go? The Museum of Natural History was suggested, and all agreed. Air conditioning would be a welcomed thing, for the heat was sweltering, and the sweat upon our brows thick. Naturally, we consulted our maps. We walked in what seemed like the right direction, but then got very confused. And so, we asked a man sporting a flashy badge to acknowledge our plight and set us aright.
He pointed the way, and we followed it faithfully, talking amongst ourselves as we walked. We even found a cement box in which purple flowers and brilliant green grass grew, and _MH immediately plopped Alicia amongst the flora. Suddenly, it was all too clear that we were headed in the wrong direction! We quickly turned around and walked back. As we entered the museum, the breath of cool air refreshed us, and we were privy to the custom procedure of bag-searching. The security guard, a big, black woman, was fascinated with the resinkids and their slaves, and made comments about how cute they were - especially Alicia. She couldn’t stop smiling as she pointed out the candy heart about the little one’s neck.
While Jingles, Edo, and aernath went to hunt for sustinence, _MH, Kei-chan, and I were content to sit and re-dress Nachi in the wa-loli outfit. She looked adorable, despite the struggle _MH had suffered, due to the doll’s wide hips. Two ladies admired the dolls from afar, despite getting flashed by Nachi’s exposed chest. A rather attractive janitor asked if we made dolls, but we said that some of us make clothes, but we mostly buy them from Japan or Korea. I then proceeded to say that he was hot, without knowing that he was standing close enough to hear. That was to be the lest of my problems.
The three of us spoke about various things doll-related, which shall be left up to your imagination. Then, the food-seekers returned with their meals, and one of the ladies from before gave in to her curiosity. We all chimed in, each giving her own little snippet of what these strange creatures we carried were, and where to find out more. We discovered she was from Kentucky, and was delighted, promising us she would look it up. Edo warned her that these dolls lack no body part, before the woman left.
We then gathered up the resinkids and posed them in front of the moai (Easter Island statue) near the front entrance. Suddenly, people flocked to the statue, to read up about its background and take photos of the fascinating expression. Actually, they were really taking pictures of dolls under that guise. We understood, but feigned ignorance. Once again, the security guard from before (this time with a partner in crime), gushed over our dolls. We left after that.
The heat actually felt refreshing, for there was a calm breeze this time. We walked along the cherry blossoms first, and had a quick photoshoot again. This is where the real trouble started. _MH began to have a massive nosebleed, and had nothing but a piece of sweater to stop the furious flow. Eventually, it stopped, but she had lost a lot of blood, and that would cost her later.
We moved on, toward The Awakening, and _MH revealed to us a festering wound upon both her ankles, that had spread to Jingles. We didn’t have time to seek medical attention, and thus, pressed on. We walked for miles, with no end in sight. The healing potion that I had filled up was soon emptied, having been little help to Jingles and Kei-chan. Sweat-drenched, we trudged on. _MH, unable to stand the pain from her wound any longer decided to chop off said foot and carry her shoes. And then, since we were walking by the water, a huge catfish the size of a house lept out and attacked Kei-chan. We rushed back to rescue her, but she did not escape unscathed. Two were now injured, yet both valiantly struggled towards the final destination.
We eventually came to a lush grove, where we stopped to assess the damage that had been done. aernath shot photos, while the rest of us distracted the wounded with dollietalk and made makeshift bandages for their wounds. They would have to suffice for now, as we were soon on the move again. Suddenly, out of nowhere, there came a thick fog. It separated Jingles and aernath from me, Kei-chan, Edo, and _MH. I left Edo to care for the injured while I bravely pushed forward without knowing whether or not solid ground was ahead of me.
I followed this perilous path, but not for long. To my delight, the fog began to clear, and I found aernath and Jingles sitting on a bench. I called back to the three still behind me, letting them know that it was safe to proceed. The original two that occupied the bench got up and offered their seats to the injured. We were all dehydrated, and reassured _MH and Kei-chan that we would find water soon. At last, we saw The Awakening in the distance.
“Go on without us!” we pleaded with aernath. She agreed, and made her way toward the grand sculpture. Meanwhile, the five that remained desperately sought water, and were ecstatic to find two water fountains.
“What if this is all a mirage?” Kei-chan asked. I trudged behind with Luis in my arms as she and Jingles made their way towards the fountains, _MH and Edo in tow. When we heard frantic screaming, despite having all energy drained from us, we ran forward to see what was wrong.
“It was a mirage!” Jingles and Kei-chan screamed, held in the claws of a merciless beast with a silver head and a cement body.
“WHY YOU…” the three of us screamed.
“Give us water, dammit!” Edo cried. She used the highest-level spell she could muster and blasted the fountain-beast to smithereens.
“There are more water fountains over there!” Kei-chan said, pointing. “But let’s be careful, this time!”
Good thing we did, for they were guarded by two fire creatures that shot flames into the mouths of poor Kei-chan and Jingles. It was only a temporary sting, however. When they saw our resolve to get to their treasure, the creatures stopped their onslaught and allowed us to pass, starting with the two that they had harmed. Miraculously, Jingles was restored to full health. I then re-stocked my potions and let Kei-chan drink. I had no need, as I was not wounded. _MH and Edo, too, were restored.
We then made our way to aernath, who was being assaulted by four enemy soldiers. Once Jingles and I got there, we cast an earthquake spell that shook them all and knocked them out. When we had all come back together, we posed for a newspaper picture, destined to be the front page: Six Girls Brave the Heat and Save the City!
“But how are we going to get home?” I asked despairingly. Though most of us had been restored, there was no telling what powerful monsters lay in wait. _MH quietly came forward.
“Um…all of my magic was restored, so…I could summon something….” We rejoiced and all agreed. So, she used all of her newly refreshed magic strength to bring forth a yellow pegasus with a black mane and black feathered feet, and black wings. It wasn’t much bigger than a pony. “I’m sorry, it’s the best I could do.”
“It’s fine. We’ll just all squish!” Jingles said. We all mounted - _MH and Edo being the smallest, sat closer to its head, while the rest of us crowded behind its wings.
It took off, and made the distance we had covered look like mere centimeters from our original location. Suddenly, exhausted from the summon, _MH remembered something.
“My…clothes,” she whispered weakly. Jingles gave her Nachi and the doll was undressed in front of the random passers-by, but quickly stuffed into Jingles’ backpack before anyone could wonder. It was then that aernath remembered that her shoes were still upon the feet of Luis. The little buggers were tough to get off, but it was done. _MH and Edo went on to go look at museums while Jingles, Kei-chan, and I all made our way to the metro.
Little did we know that we had walked straight inside the belly of a monster. Kei-chan and I were affected by its spell, and unable to fight. But with a glorious show of power (and while changing Nachi back into her original clothes), Jingles fought it off, and we returned to our respective homes, each girl having gained a level and a hoarde of XP.
