In which a good deal of money hating is done...
Let me begin this by saying i hate money. Money does this thing. It changes people. And not in a good way.
Here is the story. It will be choppy and i will try to keep it to the facts.
June 17th my old roomates move out.
While living in the apartment the bills were split 4 ways.
They leave and each pay their fair share of the rent. Because you pay for rent whether you are living there or not. This was fair and good on their part.
The end of june rolls around and i am left high and dry with the electricity and cable bills.
notice they only left money for rent.
They are in europe until July 4th.
So I write them each a polite email describing the situation to them.
Money got very tight for me at that time and i had to borrow money from my parents to make ends meet. If you know anything about me then asking for help in any form is something i absolutely loathe. I wouldn't have had to if they had left the money for their bills.
Here is where the problem happens.
They think that they should only have to pay for a half a months bills because they only lived in the apartment for half a month.
However, they payed for a full month of rent before they left. They apparently understand the fact that some bills work the same way as rent.
Cable for example. You can't pay for a half a month's cable bill. Even if you cancel the cable in the middle of a month you still have to pay for that entire month. Whether you have the ability to watch it or not.
I made a compromise with them on the electric bill. If no one had used any electricity when they left then that would only be half the amount of that months bill and thats all they would have had to pay.
To make matters worse one of the roommates is claiming that i OWE him money. Because he paid for a full months rent while he only lived in the apartment for 17 days.
I really hate stuff like this. Tell me if you think that i am being unfair to them. I don't think that i am. I think that i am being very fair. Do you want to know why i think this? Because if the situation was reversed i would have no problem whatsoever giving them what they asked for.
This makes me so goddamn angry. I wish i didn' have to deal with this but $100 is alot of money to me right now.
