Well, another holiday party is finished and I got to be the one that got a little tipsy this year. I apparently was stashing little weinie toothpicks for later usage... only I forgot about them, and my lovely wife found them for me yesterday (not to her pleasure, I might add). But after sleeping until 1pm on sunday, she was sweet enough to have the house cleaned for me anyway. She's so good to me.
We went to see Frost/Nixon last evening and it was pretty good... I was a little worried that it would be a little overdone with Ron Howard directing, but it was good. I enjoyed it. The Frost character was a little hard to connect with and it left you feeling a little sorry for Nixon. Both seem like odd emotions, as I certainly don't think Nixon needs any sympathy and Frost (I think) is the guy in the movie that you should feel a connection to. But then again, maybe that's the point to the thing. Or maybe I'm just rambling. Anyway, it was good. Both Julie and I enjoyed it.
Today I've been trying to find some money (heh), and was scanning old photos for my folks for Christmas. I have another box of glass plate negatives from the family from the early 1900's. One box is labeled 1901 another is labeled 1908. It's pretty clear all the photos are from about 1901 to 1914 or so. It's pretty cool. I'll post photos in
flickr when the surprise won't be spoiled anymore. There's a lot of things about the photos that are confusing, since I don't really know who is in most of the photos, but I suspect I'm related to someone. I recognized my grandmother and her 2 sisters. Also, I learned is apparently my great-grandfather went to Northwestern for college. But I think my grandmother's mom family name must be "Wick" because there are some labeled as the Wicks (I have never heard that name, so it means nothing to me). My grandmother (Ruth Heathcock) grew up in Wakefield, MI (in the U.P.) and an uncle owned a mine near Linden, WI. There are some very cool photos from the mine of workers, machinery and the office.
Unfortunately, none of these photos have been cared for over the years and they are in very rough shape. It's taken a lot of work just to get some of these to scan, and I'm not even going to bother to take the time to try and fix all the places that emusion has been chipped, scratched or melted away.
