OK, some people may remember how I describe my LJ as a whiny-assed post every few months about how my life sucks.... spackeled liberally with random quizzes and LOLcatz.
Not today.
In the interest of NOT spending my life cleaning up kitty poo and bunny turds at Red Door (much though I love the animals and people there), I started applying to a few choice want ads on craigslist, hoping to get a job as a receptionist or vet tech. In other words, something that does NOT involve me on my knees half the day given the shape my knees are in. Also, something that involves me using my expensively-educated brain.
I got a call from Higgins Animal Clinic in Lakeview, asking me to come in for an interview. I vaguely remember it being for a receptionist job, so I went into the interview prepared for a receptionist position. Turns out, they looked over my resume and saw that, well looky-that, I have medical experience from PAWS and Red Door. They so happen to need a veterinary assistant more than they need a receptionist. So, the interview mutated into a vet assist one. They liked me well enough to ask for me to come back for a trial period today shadowing Dr. Roberts and his assistant Kaitlin.
I came. I shadowed. They had a small emergency with a cat that I didn't panic during. I left after about 3 and a half hours in good spirits. Met up with Tel and went to see Ratatouille. (Tel had also just had a job interview for a downtown office job and was just as keyed up about it as me.) We come out of the movie and get on the train to go home, she calls hub to tell him when we're coming home. She asks him to check her e-mail since her job interview was supposed to contact her in the afternoon. Lo and behold, she has an e-mail saying she has the job!
WAHOO!
We get home and I make a mad dash for the potty. And while I'm doing that, the phone rings. Tel comes downstairs with the phone, telling me it's Higgins. I get on the phone and Adele (the manager) is there, telling me that Dr. Roberts was "thrilled with my performance" and when can I start?
DOUBLE WAHOO!
I told her that in the interest of good relations, I need to give Red Door two weeks' notice. So I will tell Matt tomorrow that I have found another job, but I would like to continue some time at Red Door; either as an employee or a volunteer.
Anyone have any idea how to quit a job that you actually like so there's no hard feelings?
Other than that small dilemma... HOLY CRUD!!!!
TEL AND I BOTH GOT JOBS IN THE SAME DAY!!! WE JUST COLLECTIVELY RAISED OUR ANNUAL HOUSE BUDGET BY NEARLY $50,000.
Can anyone say "Disney World next summer"?
