I'm disgusted, too. I don't care that it's fanfiction, I don't care that Pamela Dean gave CC a posteriori permission (why, incidentally????) CC is supposed to be a writer, and like Halia says above, plagiarism is really unforgivable, for people who call themselves writers most of all.
I certainly will not go back to or finish reading her trilogy. I sure as hell will NOT buy her book when it is published. How are we supposed to hold her up as a credible writer who deserves to have her work admired if we will NEVER KNOW whether she's plagiarized? I'm sorry, but any writer who has plagiarized once will do it again. Obviously she's got no moral problem with doing so, and only cares about the popularity of her stories.
Ugh. Hopefully she'll make a little money with her new, published books and then someone will sue her. She is publishing with the name 'Cassandra Claire,' after all, so at least some of her success is going to come from her fairly large fanbase. That's reason enough for Pamela Dean to sue, isn't it?
Thanks for posting about this. It's one of those things were ignorance is not, in any way, bliss.
