Bombay Sound System's song NUIT, the black-on-black mix, finally incorporates the whinnying of horses into fairly seamless sort of pyschological trance music: I mean, if you can have crickets, windchimes and other assorted creatures lurking in the background of artists like Enigma, Delerium or Loreena Mcknennit, not to mention Bjork, Thievery Corporation or even some of Death Cab's more transcendental stuff, why not horses? *grin* It was unusual, but it was fun, and for the little horse-crazy kid that I used to be, it was innately fulfilling. Ghosts need to be laid to rest sometimes, as opposed to reconnected with... Had a lot of fun at Heather and then Tony's, last night, was kind of odd to run into people that went to highschool with Joho's from Peterborough I have since lost touch with. Leaving tomorrow for Powassan for a week... God, how much do I loathe this season... It will be very nice to see my family and spend a couple of hopefully as tranquil as possible days in the country, and perhaps go up to wander around the stables up the road a bit (are you getting the sense of the horse fever?), but when the christmas movies and music mean nothing, the whole bloody season is like the plague. So much to do, so many people running around trying to make this ridiculous economy work, families given their once-a-year respite from capitalist priorities to regroup under an officially sanctioned hope of moral renewal. Curses on the whole bloody enterprise!. New Year's has always been far better in my mind: no financial burdens but those attendant on immediate physical consumption and celebration: the lights, which are the one thing about Christmas that I really love, are still up and sparkling, and peopl are just happy to be around each other and having fun.
