For the first time in a long time (too long!), I got inspired while walking through the grocery store: today's dinner was asparagus, broccoli and crimini mushrooms in a cream sauce, over brown rice penne. And it worked well! And, I was pleasantly surprised by the brown rice penne - the consistency was definitely different from regular pasta, but not so much that it was jarring.
The Hawaii trip is finally starting to come together.
Last year, one of the reasons we picked Costa Rica is because I thought Hawaii would be too intimidating to plan - and after 2-3 weeks of making and second guessing island choices, reading way too many hotel/b&b/resort reviews and a bit of stress, I'm happy with our 90% settled on itinerary.
The only catch is that one place I'm totally fixating on costs an obscene amount of money. It's pretty much my mental image of paradise, and I'm trying to bend the will of the universe to stay there for four nights. This insanity is only mitigated by the fact that I already know where we'll say if the universe really refuses to bend.
Either way, though, having the basic itinerary planned out is a big weight off - now I can just be thrilled that we'll be going to Hawaii, that we'll be celebrating six years together, and that, universe and Pele permitting, we'll get to see flowing lava as part of that.
