Morning Adventures

Oct 11, 2009 05:45

It would be at 5:45 in the morning that I post for the first time in months. Oh lord!!! So, I was dreaming, I don't remember exactly what it was about, but suddenly I was being stabbed in the chest by lots of tiny sharp things. I woke up thinking Callista (my kitten) was walking up my chest or trying to kneed me, but as I gained awareness I realized these pricks were too many, too fast, and moving towards my face. Strangely, I didn't freak out, I just grabbed at the intruder just before it leapt over my shoulder and under my pillows. It was small and furry and my first thought was that a mouse just ran up my chest! Then the gears turned some more and I realized it was way too fat and had no tail. At this point I woke Zachary up with some shocked obscenity and an order to turn on the lights as I began feeling franticly in the dark to figure out where the intruder was. When the lights came on, who should poke their furry little head out from between my pillows? Gertrude. My hamster. For those of you who don't know, Gertrude is an escape artist extraordinaire who has successfully escaped every cage I've ever put her in. Including, now, the solid metal one that she apparently pushed open the (very sticky) door of. This has been her 6th escape, including the time she got out of her hamster ball while I was cleaning her cage. Every time her escapes have happened in an area full of cats, and every time the little fatty has escaped scott-free. I don't know how she does it, but I'm glad she does. It looks like I may have the *knocks wood* luckiest hamster alive.
